I am a stay at home mom come optician with a degree in Psychology. I live in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle. I have two grown sons, the youngest having just turned 18 this year. I grew up on a small farm on the other side of the sound, but now live in suburbia...I love the open country and animals and am blessed that my parents, married over 50 years, still live in my childhood home abundant with fields, forest and streams. My boys have spent nearly every summer with them and their lives have thus been truly enriched.

I came to SP a few years back to shave off that pesky 10 pounds that vexes most of us at some point in life. I used to be a runner but now I have a knee that flares instantly the minute I hit the street. I miss running and the freedom to just be able to open my front door and get an exhilarating cardio workout out in the fresh air without ever setting foot in a gym. But now I have this wonderful site full of thoughtful people who share the same goal of good health. I love the quick, easy, free mini workout videos on Sparkpeople as well as the recipe ideas. I also enjoy connecting with other sparkers and appreciate the supportive environment.

I do believe that laughter is the best medicine and love irony, witty humor, sarcasm and anything that involves a play on words. I've learned that a lot of the time reality is funnier than fiction and you need to be able to laugh at yourself if you're going to get through it unscathed. I've learned that exercising will never be as easy as eating but that the easy way is almost never the right way. And finally, I can assure you that money does not buy happiness, but still, I'd rather be miserable in a Mercedes than on a bicycle. And for my last pearl of wisdom (customized just for SP): Pig out today, tomorrow you pay!

My Goals:
My goals are to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

My Program:
I love super cheap, easy diets with structured meal plans that take the guesswork out of the equation.. Don't judge...it thrills me to see weight drop quickly. I know these diets are not recommended, but they seem to be the only way I can lose weight. I'm impatient when it comes to weight loss. I want to hurry and lose it so I can get back to "good eating" again. I know the roller coaster of weight gain and loss is very bad and frowned upon by nutritionists. But to tell you the truth, I've always liked roller coasters. Whenever I see one while visiting a new place, I HAVE to get on it. Cheap thrills, what can I say?

Personal Information:
Cookies are my kryptonite.

Once I bungee jumped over a crocodile pit in Australia.

Apologies for being a little dumb, and not thinking that the mistake could have been from a possessive being confused, probably because I had capitalized the first letter of Ds. And that of course you would know the abbreviations. Mea Culpa!

I hope the girls are well, and thinking egg-laying thoughts. ;-)

So sorry to have confused you! I started using e-mail a hundred years ago, way back in 1997. Clearly I am not up on the newest abbreviations. Back then, dh was dear husband, dw was dear wife, ds dear son, and dd dear (or perhaps darling) daughter. The adjective could have been added for one of two reasons - to placate the people in question by clearly showing one's affection, or - because random individual letters might confuse people like me, who need things as plain as possible.

Glad to see your blog today. :-) I am healing all right after the Mohs surgery, but there is an unattractive linear scar in the middle of my forehead that is very obvious, lumpy, and unattractive. Oh well. Not much I can do.
