WATERMELLEN
I'm not entirely sure how Charlie and now Henry learned to use their door bells! It seemed really natural and easy (not everything is!!) and both were ringing their bells within a few days.
We hung the bells on the door. We would ring the bell and then take the puppy out . . . not put the puppy out alone. Most puppies love to be outside but with their people . . they don't wander far at first.
And then every time the puppy rang the bell, whether on purpose or inadvertently, we'd take him out and praise him. Lavishly!! So clever!!
I think goldens appreciate being treated with "dignity" . . not having to beg, able to be confident that their needs will be attended to quickly. They aren't barking or whining dogs . . .
