I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest. We have 3 living children, 2 DILs, 2 DGSs, ages 17 and 14, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our great-grandchildren, 2 girls and a boy!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy well over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have had both hips replaced due to osteoarthritis and hauling excess weight around is not good for them. So, in the interest of preserving my joints, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the younger generation for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!

My Goals:
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and working on my fitness.


My Program:
My program is also simple:
1. I will be focusing on monitoring my calorie intake and utilize WW as much as possible. This will include getting an appropriate balance of protein, carbs and fats.
2. I will participate in Silver Sneakers (when they become available again) and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week. Fitness may be my friend, but I'm still trying to get make it my best friend--difficult since I'm not really much of a fan. LOL Until the Y reopens, I will utilize SP and YouTube videos at home.
3. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 2021 5% Winter Challenge, as well as my team activities.

Other Information:
I love to read and work on genealogy, and spend as much family time as possible with our grandsons and greats. Notice I do not include exercise in my "loves," but I do make myself work on fitness, with that as the over-riding goal: functional fitness.

    Thank you for the comments on my blog, Images.
    It doesn't take much to trigger some image of some food from our past. And we never know when that image will pop up.
    We have to be as strong as we can be and not give in.
    I usually make a point of talking about my weight loss. People respond very positive and complementary . That just helps me to remember the past year and a half of change . And all the previous 12 fat years are a time in my life I do not want to revisit.
    You take care, stay positive, and Spark on.

    Hi Jeannie...always nice hearing from you. Today is a MUCH better day for me than previous days and I'm able to get around inside without a cane. I still have some pain but it's moved down into the calf and behind my knee now (almost feels like a charlie horse) and I can live with that. It's nothing like it was even a couple days ago. I'm so thankful. Even went out to the grocery store (hubby drove) but I did opt for a cart just to make sure. I do think I'm finally on the mend here. Been quite warm here for the past 3 days so have run the a/c. It's probably the same there in IA for you. Have a great week ahead and thanks so much for asking!

    Hi Jeannie, thanks so my for the rose and get well wishes. Afraid today isn't any better than previoius days but I know it could be worse. At least this is will pass eventually. I've always said patience is not a virtue of mine so sometimes I think I'm brought to my knees for this very reason. Hopey you're havin a successful week. I weighed in at WW yesterday and lost 1.2# for the week so was pleased with that since I've not been able to exercise with this sciatica problem. Sunny but cool here today but I'll take it over the recent weather we've been having.
