In a world where winning is everything my goal is to be a LOSER!
My story...It all started the year we moved-new town, no friends and a long hot summer. I went on my first diet when I was 13. When I went away to college I LOST somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds. I was finally where I should probably have been, but still it wasn't good enough.

My story...It all started the year we moved-new town, no friends and a long hot summer. I went on my first diet when I was 13. When I went away to college I LOST somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds. I was finally where I should probably have been, but still it wasn't good enough.
I was fit and healthy, my skin and bones friend was upset because my muscular, curvy body actually had less fat than her skin and bones body when we had to go through the pinch test in college health and then I felt guilty about that-like it was my fault. She also then lost about 10 pounds and when we graduated our two year school her mother was worried because she was so skinny. I was still worried about not being skinny enough.
I left school and the weight started to come back, first slowly and then not so slowly. Soon I was into the 200's. I was somewhere around 230 when I got married. 4 years later the first child arrived with a few more pounds, then the second and the third. I actually lost weight in the birth of the third, but gained and gained after I left work to be a stay at home mom. It wasn't long before, on a bad day, I could tip 300.
On good days it was just under that. When I came back to SparkPeople I called it 297.I have been a member of Spark since 2005 (I think), but I left and came back and left and came back. A year after coming back for the second time I am 35 pounds lighter (a winter of discontent brought some weight back, but not all). I came back to Spark with the intent of losing weight, that was my only goal. Instead I found a whole bunch of friends who were doing all sorts of things. They were living full and happy lives at whatever weight they were at. I discovered that while I still wanted to lose weight, what I really wanted was a fuller, happier, more active life.
I found that I could do lots of things where I had previously said "I am too fat to do that." Like hiking and aerobics class. I also discovered running. I ran my first 5K in September of 2009. In June of 2010 I ran my first 10K. While "celebrating" my 40th birthday I had a revelation...there were people who were about the same weight as I was and they were RUNNING!! Why couldn't I?? Suddenly I wanted to be a runner. C25K got me started, that winter of discontent brought on shin splints and I discovered Jeff Galloway and stretches specifically focused on keeping my legs limber and loose so that those shin splints would stay away. I want to start training for a half marathon...
Never say you can't, never say you are too fat...if I can do it so can you. If you plan, if you train and if you try you can do anything. Yoga? Of course you can, adapt it to your needs and go for it! Baseball? Get out your glove and start slow! Running? Of course you can!! Start slow, keep working and soon you will be doing YOUR first 5K!! Never say you can't!!!
My DONE list-posted in 2009-
I am DONE being the fat girl.
I am DONE not being able to keep up with my kids.
I am DONE not being able to fit into my favorite clothes.
Here's a good one-I am DONE wearing a towel to the side of the pool because I don't want anyone to look at my jiggly thighs while I walk to the pool and get in the water!
I am DONE paying extra for clothes that are not as cute as the ones in the regular sizes.
I am DONE not being able to find the right size bra.
I am DONE not wanting to go to amusement parks because the bar won't close or the belt won't buckle.
I am DONE being breathless after a small uphill climb.
I am DONE not wanting to get dressed in the morning because all of my clothes are ugly.
I am DONE not wanting to go shopping for new clothes (I love shopping).
I am DONE being mad at myself for letting me get to this point.
I am DONE feeling like my husband is disappointed in me.
I am DONE worrying about what I am teaching my kids.
I am DONE standing on the sidelines while others run past.
I am READY to kick my fat in the behind (or kick my fat behind LOL) into the next time zone-someone in Nevada can have it.
I am READY to get up in the morning and look at the new day as an opportunity to become the person I already know I am-I just can't find her under the extra weight!
I am READY to be the mom who has so much energy that even after she puts her kids to be she is ready to dance the night away with her loving husband-instead of colapsing into the nearest comfy chair to watch t.v. and/or read a book (too bad my husband doesn't dance LOL).
I am READY to live to 101 as that spry lady who everyone is in awe of because she is 101 and the Energizer Bunny-she keeps going and going and going...
I am READY to be able to coach my kids' sports teams. I used to love softball, but can't run the bases (it hurts my knees and there is no point because I will get tagged out before I can get my behind to the plate :-) ).
I am READY to live life unfettered. I am READY to do this!
