Introduction Text My name is Julie. I live in Spokane, Washington. I am 60 and I have ovarian cancer. I have been fighting this since June 15, 2004. I have been gaining weight because of the steriods I get during treatment. I joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter #WA423, Spokane in Sept. of 2003. Before the end of the year I had lost 32 pounds. Only to put it back on again after I started treatment. Everytime I had a surgery or ended up in the hospital I would lose and keep it off for about 6 months then I would start treatment again... Anyway, I had finally gotten down to 174 last August. I was ecstatic! Then my cancer markers starting rising rapidly and we had to start a new treatment...more steroids and constantly hungry! The first part of April I was back up to 221 pounds...almost back to my starting weight at TOPS...that was 222! My doctor wanted me to join Weight Watcher's but I can't afford that ...it is way too expensive...then I happened to REALLY notice one of the headlines in the Spark People email that I was getting but not reading...I actually read the article and wandered around on the site for quite a while...once I figured out somewhat how to use the site I realized with the nutrition tracker I could keep track of everything and have a better chance of at least staying where I was at and hopefully lose. I am not able to do most of the exercises but I can walk for a few minutes each day...some days a lot...other days not so much but I try a little each day. (I was able to do more than I thought this last year as far as exercising went...it worked out to equal 461 miles!) I told my oncologist about the site...she is going to check into it and says she will probably recommend it to other patients who are having weight problems.

My goals are to eat right, get healthy, lose weight and just plain live and enjoy life!!!

I am changing my eating habits, watching my intakes, and getting more exercise. I belong to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter #WA423, Spokane so I get a lot of accountability and local support (We are like one big family! My chapter is great!) I have the support and encouragement of my medical team as well...they are truly great!

I was born in Arlington, WA...went to school in Granite Falls and Arlington, WA, although, I graduated from Roland Consolidated Schools in Roland, IA. Gene and I currently live in Spokane, WA. and I love it here...we actually get 4 seasons! Not like the coast of WA where it rains...A LOT! Unfortunately, my husband, Gene, and I had to get a divorce so I could get medical help (he made $100 a month too much!) to help me fight the cancer...but as far as we are concerned nothing has changed between us...and in God's eyes we are still married! And have been for almost 19 years! I have 3 sons, we have 1 "Adopted" son & daughter, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

I like a variety of music...most anything except rap, hard rock and the stuff they call hiphop ( not what we use to call hip hop!) I enjoy reading, especially the Love Inspired books. I love to camp and fish. I enjoy doing Relay For Life...I feel like I am giving back to the community but I am also helping others to become aware of the various types of cancer and what can be done to help with research. I like Relay because the funds stay in the local areas for research there.
