05/12/19: Hi, I am Janette. I just recently turned 59 years old. I live with my boyfriend and his teenage son. We live in Escondido, CA. We have two dogs that my boyfriend bought for his son.

05/12/19: Hi, I am Janette. I just recently turned 59 years old. I live with my boyfriend and his teenage son. We live in Escondido, CA. We have two dogs that my boyfriend bought for his son.
I have been on this journey for six years now. I started My Fitness Pal on Mother's Day, 05/12/2013, and Spark People the next day, at 170 pounds. I joined several other weight loss and exercise sites and groups since then. I got down to 140 pounds soon after joining the sites while I was training to run my first and only 5 K in Sept of 2013. Something that I would have never thought of ever trying before I started this journey. Since I am asthmatic and have never been really athletic because of it and other health issues. I had old and new health issues bothering me before and after that race. So I stopped all high impact exercise sometime after that race at the guidance of my doctors.
On April 1, 2014 I started the Dash Diet at 144.8 pounds. I bounced back up as soon as I went on that diet and started adding more dairy, fruits and grains and such back into my diet like my doctors wanted me to do. So I started playing with it and was doing better. But then I had health problem after health problem and started to put weight back on. And with going back to work I was having a hard time with it too. So I have been working more on just maintaining and not so much concentrating on losing since I went back to work in 2016.
Goals I started in 2013 and I have already completed or are still working on:
1: I got down to 140 pounds in 2013. But started to go back up when I stopped running for health issues and my life just got really busy. I had to start all over. I am bouncing around 155 to 165 for a couple of years now. I can still get into my little red dress as it is stretchy, but I would like it to fit nicer on me than it does now.
2: I cut my blood pressure medicine in half twice already in 2013. And was only on a really low dose for a couple of years. I went off it in 2016 when I stopped going to the doctor’s office for over a year. Then I went back on the low dose I was on before to see if it will help with some health issues I was having and I have stayed on the low dose.
3: I lowered my bad and raised my good cholesterol level to help with my gallbladder, liver and gallstone issue in 2013. And each year it was getting better and better. Until I skipped going to the doctor’s for over a year. I found out then that my bad cholesterol was creeping back up again, so I am back at working on lowering it again.
4: I started to eat more whole foods and less processed foods daily in 2013, and want to continue it.
5: I started to walk daily either in our home, or in our neighborhood. Started to walk my errands and appointments as much as possible in 2013. And I want to continue it. I get a lot of walking in during the week with my job and running errands for my job and for personal too.
6: I started drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day in 2013. And want to continue it. Over a year ago I passed some kidney stones. And after my right kidney, my spleen, my liver and gallbladder were all enlarged. I still had some small kidney stones in the left kidney, that they didn’t think would ever come up and cause me any issues. But my right kidney was not draining properly for a while after that. I also went through skin cancer surgery on my face at the same time last year in March. And I might have had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia, or it could have also been an allergic reaction to having Hepatitis A & B Vaccinations about the same time too. Since having the issue with my kidney, I started drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day. I will continue to drink at least 8 glasses a day.
7: I started trying to get at least 8 hours sleep nightly in 2013. This one is hard for me as I just don’t sleep well. I am a really light sleeper that wakes up really easy from the slightest noise or movement. And our dogs wake me up a lot too during the night and early morning. Or I get hot and cold spells or other issues that wake me up during the night and morning. Especially the dogs wake me up a lot jumping on and off the bed, and sometimes even jumping on and off me to do so. Or they bark a lot at different noises they hear, like other dogs barking.
8. I started exercising for at least 10 minutes daily in 2013, and quickly upped it to at least 30 minutes. I kept 30 mins up for years. I always do at least 15 minutes of exercise daily now. Days that I go to work I get a lot of exercise minutes in with walking. Weekends I might take it easy and just do the 15 minutes other than doing house work. But a lot of times on the weekends I choose not to really track anything, and just take those two days more as “rest days”.
9. I started stretching every day in 2013. And I am doing even more of now to help with my Scoliosis and oblique muscle issues. As they caused me to give up my high impact exercises. And if I don’t do the stretching it will just get worse and worse. I found some new stretches in 2016 that I want to continue with. Plus I still do the exercises I was taught when I went to PT for it in 2014 and before that too. After going back to work, I upped my stretching and PT yoga like stretches up to at least 30 minutes a day to help with my scoliosis. As my back and right side oblique muscles started bugging me more with going back to work. And I just had to go back to PT this week as I was having issues with the right side of my body. Especially my oblique muscles again. And for the first time I was having issues with my right leg too. So I am in PT for at least one hour twice a week right now. And at home I am doing at least 30 to 90 minutes of PT exercises each day too.
10. I started trying to walk one more step every day in 2013, and get over 10,000 steps a day. And I wish to try to keep it up too.
11. I started weighing myself on the Wii and logging it in daily in 2013. And then later I bought a scale and I also started weighing on it daily. I still weigh on my scale almost daily. I don’t always log it anymore in here, but I keep track of it on paper. I was weighing on the Wii daily too, but I didn’t always log that except on paper. And sometimes if I am really busy trying to get everyone out of the house on time in the mornings, then I didn’t always use the Wii until later in the evening, or at all. Now I don’t use it as much anymore, as I am usually rushing in the morning to get everyone off to where they have to go.
12. I started measuring myself and logging it in monthly in 2013. I don’t do it very often anymore. I pay more attention to how my clothes are fitting me then the measuring tape or scale.
13. I started checking into the site for at least 5 minutes daily in 2013. And was usually on the site several times a day for way more than 5 minutes each time. I plan on checking in at least once a week for at least 5 minutes.
