No you didn't read it wrong. You're absolutely correct that strictly speaking 'daylight saving time' refers to when the clocks 'spring' forward. However here in the UK it has come to encompass both changes on the basis that the clocks 'falling back' is an automatic [?] result of them 'springing forward'.
On the whole I wish they'd stay in British Summer Time [forward]. That would create problems in Scotland though but I don't see why we can't deal with Scotland going into Greenwich Mean Time [back] whilst England and Wales stay in BST. Not sure about Northern Ireland but think they'd also be better off sticking with BST. .
Mostly I don't have a strong feeling one way or another but there's quite a bit of evidence that there are more road traffic accidents due to the change back to GMT which seems to me a good reason to stick with BST! 93 days ago
