Thanks for your comment on my page . . . yes, despite quite a few frustrations and annoyances with getting paperwork type stuff addressed (and yup, I've moaned in a few recent blogs!) the move here is going well. Just love PEI: the house, the neighbourhood, the neighbours, the slower pace of life. With golf and kayaking and hiking opportunities opening up as the spring comes to us. 30 days ago

Fredie, I did some research on mulches for your area. I am giving you to a link to a guy who explains the different type of mulches to use in the Texas area. If it was me planting and I want my new plants to do well, I would choose the 2 type of compose mulch. You want these plants to take root and be healthy. Also you want something that will retain water. Texas from my understanding can get quite hot and you probably don't want these plants to die out.
If I was planting in my area of Michigan I probably would use a red cedar type of mulch. I don't use mulch too much. I have one area in my backyard that I use this type of mulch.
Before I make any decisions, I would take time and do research as to what grows best in your area. Plan from there.

Hi, Fredie -- how nice of you to check in on me!! What big changes in our lives!! You have had a much more difficult transition time than I have, what with the weather problems in Texas, and I'm so glad you're treating yourself to fixing up your new place just the way you want it. Home matters and Bernie matters! So lovely for you to be close to your daughter, son-in-law and grandson!
Our new place is working out very well for us -- you can if you like check a couple of my recent blogs to get the details. But the house was designed by its previous owners for their own retirement and is so well organized and comfortable for us. I am enjoying the birdwatching, cross country skiing on the bay, the neighbours and the wonderful PEI landscape: looking forward to kayaking and golfing in the spring too.
We are pretty well unpacked. I've been polishing up silver -- first my Mum's and yesterday my own!! Next job will be to hang up more of our art pieces and that takes time, to feel where they will be happiest!! I'm also thinking about some simple shades on a couple of windows. 49 days ago

Fredie, just read through your recent blogs and am relieved to hear that you came through that awful weather disaster in Texas. I thought of you when I heard about all the outages, and I'm so glad you were able to go stay with your daughter's family and didn't have to freeze in your own home without power. I sure hope things are getting back to normal and your plants are revived.
So sorry you have waves of homesickness for Marin. I can understand that. I hope you soon feel more at home in Austin. It was such a brave and generous thing to move there, and I'm sure your daughter is so grateful to have you nearby. 51 days ago
