Ooh, my first blog on SparkPeople! Exciting. I'll kind of introduce myself and my story here, so that you can get to know me.
I heard about SparkPeople from my mother when I was talking about how I needed some sort of support group for people who want to lose weight. She told me about it, yet from my own googling I found Xanga.com. I have been blogging there under dream_live_change for a few months now. I want something new, some sort of additional way to get support and to be accountable for what I eat and how I exercise. Having looked through this site I am surprised that I didn't begin sooner!
My name is Deirdre, and I am 19 years old. I am a college student and I live in Ireland. I am currently spending the majority of my summer vacation in the USA with family. It is hard being here as I do not have as much control as usual over what foods I can eat and when or where I can exercise. I am just trying to do my best while I'm here, and hopefully continue to steadily lose weight.
I have been overweight since I was eight years old. I have tried every diet that is out there, yet nothing seemed to work for me. When I hit 200 lbs I knew I had to change my ways, so I lowered my intake of unhealthy foods when I went to college in September '08. Combined with intense workouts three times a week I lost 15 lbs over a period of six months. I began Weight Watchers in February '09 at 186 lbs. I am now hovering at about 164 lbs, and just want to stick to WW despite the temptations that being in the land of good food brings.
The three things that have been crucial to me in losing weight are going to the gym almost daily, eating within WW guidelines and blogging on Xanga. Blogging allowed me to meet people with similar goals as me and it has eased my guilt over bad days, which normally would have sent me into an unhealthy eating spiral. Meeting new people on SparkPeople will only add to that crucial factor for me, and the nutritional and exercise trackers are so helpful. I would love any support that you have to offer, and I will return that support!
