Blooming Onion of Death

Friday, January 29, 2010

I am daily amazed at my own self-distructive habits that come so naturally. Yesterday after an awesome morning workout and lift with my husband we ran to Richmond to run some errons, instead of Subway we ate COSTCO pizza.... a not so worth it 800 calorie slice of pizza, knowing that I could still stay on my calorie goal with great planning I didn't beat myself up about it.

We then got AWESOME news about a job my husband has been wanting and so went out to celebrate at Outback which does have LOTS of choices for me, which I did order, in addion to the

BLOOMING ONION OF DEATH

and so ended a day that could have gotton back on track but instead went to an ugly, greasy, not as tasty as I once remembered place.

RIP Blooming Onion

And welcome back willpower.

Oh man, you are not alone in the lure of the appetizer! My husband and I got Applebees gift cards for Christmas and still had to use them up. We got off work early yesterday and decided to stop for dinner. After their tireless 550 calorie menu marketing campaign, what did we order? Appetizers. Yes, appetizers for dinner. The Applebees on Pantops is having a half off appetizers special before 6pm... and I can't resist a sale. One shared plate of boneless wings and spicy queso dip later, I couldn't even get up the nerve to research the calories that I had consumed... BUT, today is a new day... and tomorrow... and the day after... that and eventually the lure of the appetizer menu (even when half off) will fail to attract. :)

Congrats to your husband on the new job!

Good for you for getting back on track post-bloomin'-onion-of-death... And good for you for recognizing that it didn't taste as good as you thought it would - that'll be valuable information going forward! For me, it can be helpful sometimes to eat something unhealthy, and really recognize that it's not worth it. I don't even really need willpower to resist enormous coffee shop muffins anymore... they're terrible for me, and I hardly even like them that much!
