Surreal Sunday

Everyone hears of tragedy on the news, but when it is personal then and only then can you really relate to what the families are going thru. We are pretty much left 1,000 miles away a nd not able to go to be with our grandson due to caring for my father who is almost 99. Therefore we just sit and wait on the phone calls to keep us updated on our grandson's condition.
He is holding his own right now, still in ICU. The drs are still in amazement that he has no broken bones. The burn surgeon has been in and we now know he is going to need several surgeries to repair the burnt area. They can't do that until he is stable. They have tried to wean him off the sedative but he is still fighting them so had to put him back under. While he was awake, he did recognize family and squeezed his cousin's hand so that was a good sign. They are doing more x-rays and cat scans and everyone is waiting to hear about the new films.
I am thankful there is lots of family there to support him and his family. His cousin's wife took his wife to get a shower and a good hot meal this afternoon-they are both pregnant-one due anytime and his wife in Dec. Tomorrow though, even though life is falling apart right now for them, others have to go back to work. Even in the midst of a crisis, life goes on, work doesn't stop, but it sure is hard to accept.
We haven't slept much and the appetite is not there and just feel useless and helpless but we are so thankful his Guardian Angel was hard at work and we are keeping a positive attitude that he is going to fully recover and welcome his little daughter in just a few months.
