Today is the day Abbie and I volunteer-she is a registered therapy dog with Caring Canines and on Thursdays we visit a local hospital where I say to everyone "We are here to bring a little smile, who can resist a sweet, loving little ball of fluff! "
Well, today I found a lady who could. I didn't want to say anything back to her as she was entering the infusion unit somI let her rant at us and then we went on our merry way to spread cheer to other patients. We have been doing this for almost 3 years and this is the first time we have been verbally abused. Normally if people say they do not like or are allergic to dogs, we give them a cheery word or a qave and go on our way to visit those who do love animals. We find most folks do have pets and being hospitalized, they are missing them and this gives them a little pick me up.
I normally feel quite good when we get back home, but today left me bothered. Of course, Abbie was her normal, loving and happy self, but I felt so sad that this poor lady, who was going in for her cancer treatment was so bitter and down. I am saying an extra prayer for her this evening that she finds something in life to bring her joy. This will not stop us from going back but it is something I hope to never repeat.
May all of you find joy in something everyday and spread that cheer to others. Our time on earth is fleeting and it is much better to be happy than to waste a moment on being miserable and sad.
God Bless and Happy Thursday fellow Spark members.
