Holiday Mania

Monday, November 22, 2010

Today was another day full of work to get our park ready for Christmas. Two of us started off at 9 am to go do some more shopping for things we needed for the decorating. We hit several stores and of course, did our most business at Wal-Mart and The Dollar Tree. All of our bows from the previous year were pretty pathetic so we are replacing them all and it takes a LOT of bows to decorate all the fences, trees, reindeer, etc. We also needed more garland as we are unable to light up the pole lamps this year so decorating more of the fencing.
I think our biggest purchase was a Santa with a surf board which we thought was quite appropriate for Florida. I will be posting pictures when we get this all done. Another crew worked on putting lights on the front entrance and wrapping the garland on the light poles.
I think we have not gotten the volunteers we have had in prior years and it is taking a lot longer to do this with less help. It is amazing how many people stop by to tell us how nice things are looking but never offer to help.
Karen and I worked about 3 hours this afternoon putting the stuff we bought in the morning out. I am anxious for Thursday evening to arrive so we can light it all up!
My advice to folks out there reading this, don't be afraid to volunteer. It seems a few do all the work and the rest just stand on the sidelines and watch. It is fun and you will make more friends just by getting out and being helpful.
Nite all, tomorrow is another busy day and hopefully we will finish this project up!!!!

I know what you mean about just a few people doing all the work. It is the same way at our church. It is the same small group of people doing everything. I bet everything looks great! I can hardly wait to see the pictures.

I so agree about the not stopping to volunteer. I am guilty of that myself. with 5 kids to chase after it always seems easier to donate money food or clothes rather than time. I wish there were organizations around here that were kid friendly I could volunteer time too. with almost 2 yr old niece always at my hip very few places even 4 yr olds pre k that wants me there guess baby in tow scares them off lol. I am so looking forward to pics of the finished product and a few fun ones along the way Have a blessed day and thank you for doing all the work most of us cant or wont do
