As you know, my laptop has been giving me fits for a few months and I have been trying to make it last till next spring when buying a new one fits the budget. Well, my brother told me over a week ago that he was going to give me his Toshiba that is not even 6 mo old as he had gotten MACS for he and his wife and they had given their daughters their other computers when they got this so now he had this one and he decided it could be put to good use by giving his sister a present.
He came down today and we celebrated early Christmas with him and now I have my "new to me" laptop. Then as a bonus, my hubby got him to take him and he bought me the router I had been talking about so I can go wireless and compute from our family room. I even got a 4 gig USB drive and a Windows 7 for Dummies book so hopefully this old dog can learn some new tricks and figure out how to set this all up and transfer her files!!! It is hard to believe that I was one of the 1st in my office back in the 80's to work on the computer and back then I was fearless and eager to learn. Now I am older and though I still love technology, I really don't care how it works, I just want it to work, if that makes sense.
Over time, I got used to having an IT dept to handle computer problems and quit doing things for myself. I even helped develop programs with the programmers but I didn't do the actual work, just told them what I wanted it to do and then tested things for them. I guess that I got lazy.
That is not good so now I am challenging myself to get into this and use my mind and start learning again. It is like my weight loss journey. Once upon a time, it was not so difficult to lose weight. I could drop a few pounds in a couple of weeks and things were right but now the metabolism has slowed, the eagerness is not always there, excuses to not work as hard at exercise are all too ready, I eat out too much, and on and on. It i time to challenge myself on another level, getting serious about my eating and exercising because I have 3 months before my next doctor visit and I want to hear her say that things are looking better.
So wish me luck as I tackle two things at once-learning new things on the computer and getting myself back on track. I know that this old dog can be taught new tricks!!
