Thought this was just going to be a cold day and one to stay inside and muddle along but as they say, a phone call changes everything. First my daughter-in-law called to tell us they had had a fire last eve. They live in the country and have a well and a well house and their water line had frozen up and they were trying to get the water running when evidently they were using an extension cord and the circuit got overloaded and it sparked in he laundry room and things went downhill after that with no water to put it out! They called the fire dept and was using their jugs of drinking water to try to douse it. Evidently they have a big mess from the insulation that was smoldering, the smoke got everywhere and the firemen poked a hole in the ceiling. They were going to call the insurance company right after they had told us.
That was the start of our morning and it didn't improve as the day went on. About 11 my younger son called to tell me his older brother who has 6 children had just been laid off. Not exactly what one needs right before Christmas and they were already struggling to make ends meet. So far he hasn't called me himself so waiting to hear as I don't like to let the boys know that I hear things from the other one! Younger son's wife was laid off in Sept and so far she hasn't found work-they are telling her that they aren't hiring until after the holidays.
Keep our family in your prayers that they will find work and that they will recover from the fire. We are thankful that no one was hurt although the daughter-in-law did have to go to the ER for smoke inhalation and they gave her several breathing treatments.
These are my 6 grandchildren whose father just got laid off.
