Today has been one of those days you just don't know how to take. I was up at 7 am to walk and got that in early as they predicted rain by noon. Then Wednesday is our breakfast morning. Since the snowbirds are going home, we only had 10 of us today but that is nice in a way as you can pretty much visit with everyone. Three more of these couples will be leaving in the next few weeks so breakfast may fizzle out for the summer.
We had some errands to run before going home so took care of that as I hate to have to backtrack when I am close to a place I need to go to. With the price of gas I try to do double duty on most trips out.
When we got home, it was really humid but still nice and sunny so I got busy and got the dirt spread at dad's an planted some grass seed in case we got luck and got that predicted rain. Then a couple of my volunteers helped me work in the park gardens for about 2 hours. We weeded and trimmed 6 of the beds. We still have 4 more to do but it was starting to get a little dark so we decided to call it a day a little before 2.
Well, I came home and got a bite of lunch and decided to read the paper and it kept getting darker and darker and then it started thundering and about 3:45 the storm hit. I truly didn't realize how bad it was as I was in our spare bedroom going thru some files and not paying a lot of attention. I just knew that the wind was really whistling and the rain was pounding the side of our house.
When I got done looking things up I came out of the bedroom and hubby was holding Abbie (she is deathly afraid during storms) and I looked into our Florida room and realized he hadn't shut the windows out there. I was really thankful that we had tile out there now as it was very wet!!! The rain literally blew sideways and it soaked one chair but it will dry and I mopped the rest up with a towel. We saw that our rocker had blown off our porch and nearly into the road. Several other things had blown around, but that was all the damage to our house. It was still raining, but we decided to take a ride thru the park to check on things and go check on dad and this is what we saw.
This is the roof from one home on top of another home.
This is some of the debris between the homes.
This is a picture of one home that lost it's carport.
This is another home where the carport was ripped off.
This is another shot of someone's roof on another home.
A look at the marina and what it did to the covered slips.
More damage - piles of aluminum!
The pool cage-or what should be the screen cover over our swimming pool.
The pool had been drained and was being repaired which might be a good thing.
Another look at the pool.
A big limb just missed our park truck.
Everyone has been out surveying the damage since the worst of the storm is past, but they are telling us to be prepared as another round of storms are out in the gulf and heading our way. Guess we will be listening to our weather radio tonite.
We are thankful that for all the damage, no one was injured and property can be repaired.
