Waiting on the Doc

Monday, April 11, 2011

Well, we finally got to see the cardiologist today and he has decided that hubby is going to have to have a heart cath to see if there is anything going on with the heart that is causing his chest pain. His blood pressure is still bouncing around all over the place. It is usually low in the morning, about right at mid-day, and by evening it is climbing. While we were at the dr's, it was about perfect 114/80. However, on Saturday it got up to 194/107 so you can see why I am concerned. The dr gives me some leeway to tweak his meds which I do but it is almost impossible to figure out what to do with it acting like this. We are spreading his meds out where he takes some in the am, more at lunch and then a final dose in the evening.
The doctor was happy that he is walking and we continue to do about 3.5 to 4 miles at least 5 x a week. Had hoped that more exercise and tweaking the diet would take care of things along with adding back a pill for his acid reflux but it didn't.
We are a bit nervous about this procedure for several reasons. First, he went in for routine cataract surgery and lost sight in that eye. Only 3% of the population have this problem! Seems even the smallest, routine thing doesn't work that way for him. About 3 years ago he had problems with his BP, it got up to 220/130 and he was hospitalized and it took them a week to get him stabilized-he spent a day and a half in ICU. Dr thought he would be there for 1-2 days! See why we get nervous. He had back surgery and was supposed to be in for 1 nite, he was there for 5 days. Praying that this time it is routine.
Another thing that makes us really nervous, a close friend went in for a heart cath and had a stroke and he is now residing in a nursing home and will never be the same or able to come home and when he went in, he looked like the picture of health.
We do know that if there is blockage, we need to get this taken care of as we don't want to risk a stroke or heart attack but it still is scary.
I will continue to stay busy and that helps me deal, but hubby isn't able to do a lot with his back and reading isn't possible so he sits and worries so say a little prayer that things go good and that he can relax and not get too worked up before what should be a "simple procedure".

I will pray along with you that it will be routine with nothing out of the ordinary going on, I am praying for peace and healing for your dh. I hear you with my heart, as my dh always seems to have something else come up when he goes in for something routine.
    Walking is good.

Pat-I will keep both of you in my prayers. I wish there was more I could do for you! You definitely need to let the cardiologist know about the other problems he had previously. I hope they can get it scheduled quickly so you don't have to wait too long. In the meantime, please let me know if I can do anything, OK?

Your DH is like mine. Two weeks in the hospital to remove his gallbladder on blood thinners. Both of you are on my prayer list. Keep us informed if you have the time.

    Hi Pat

I know you both must be very worried; I can only say what I say to my husband: Don't borrow trouble! Most certainly tell the physicians doing the work of his history so that they are prepared for any eventuality.

I'll be sending good energy your way:) In the meantime, try to enjoy the good weather. I"m glad to hear you're out walking so much.

    Have a great week!

I'll be praying for you two...let me know when the cath is scheduled, also.

I had a heart catheter done twice without any issues and I also am considered a medical enigma :). Seriously, I know it's scary. Try not to stress...hugs?
