Views of the Sinkhole near our Downtown

Sunday, July 24, 2011

This is a view from the side street off of Main

Another view of the sinkhole swallowing the corner of a business

Swallowing up the roof

Even the street is starting to cave in

Another view of what is left of this business

This is what the front of the building looks like from Main St.

Supposedly they are going to start to fill in this sinkhole this coming week, I am not sure if the owner is going to have to totally demolish his building or will be able to salvage part of it.

How awful! That must have been a big surprise for the owner! And not a fun surprise. Can sinkholes be filled in? I sure hope so. chris

Ah! Life in Paradise! Of course you don't have to spend it all above ground. You could by buying your groceries and beauty supplies from the basement shopping center.

You know it's too bad he coulding just revamp his building to include the sinkhole. There's a building in the Caribbean that has stones coming up through the floors and walls because of where they built the building. I know it would cost a lot, but he's going to lose alot not matter what.

He's probably not in the mood for my humor, either. Oh well, I hope he recovers most of it, if not all of it. Great pictures. He probably can't even go in to retrieve any of his stock because of the danger. So they will probably just bury all his stuff along with the building in the sinkhole they are going to fill in. What is really sad is that noone can figure out how to stop the sinkholes, or help those that get swallowed up by them. I am glad no one got hurt.

Luckily this happened at night-the owner got a call his alarm was going off and when he arrived-Voila-not a burglar, just a sinkhole. No one was hurt but I understand insurance will not cover everything and he had a lot of inventory-it was a beauty supply store and grocery on the other side. There are homes on the other side of the road but they say the hole is not getting any bigger so they do not think it will impact them. That is one reason they want to get it filled in to try to make sure it does not impact anyone else. Also the street is blocked off at present!

That's kind of scary, I hope it didn't happen during business hours while people were in the building.

Amazing pictures! Glad you are okay. We have a lot of sinkhold activity around here, too, but I haven't seen a business as impacted as that one. Take care. -Marsha
