Brief Update on Dad

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Please keep my dad in your prayers. He isn't doing well at the moment. Now they think he might have broken his hip also. A cat scan was done late this afternoon so guess I will find out tomorrow.
I have been running back and forth to the hospital all day. Thank God it is only a couple of miles from my house. He isn't able to feed himself so I am there to order his meals and help him eat and try to see drs. I missed the orthopedic dr but saw the replacement for his primary-didn't like him! His primary will be back on Mon so hoping we can get things ironed out then. This guy was talking about starting PT tomorrow and asking me about sending him home and how we would deal with him. Told him I thought we were talking about rehab for a couple weeks until he was in better shap!!! Hope we can get this all resolved and they don't try to discharge him as I don't think I can take care of him as he needs at this point.
I did manage to get a little done at home today and then gave in and took a 30 min power nap before I returned to the hospital this evening. I was totally exhausted. DH was a sweetheart and ran the vacuum for me today and he did dishes and a load of laundry.
We are expecting friends tomorrow-had invited them to our community Christmas dinner and plan to still go unless we have a crisis. I do need a little break.
Thanks everyone for all your support. It means a lot to know that so many are praying for dad and all of us. Our family seems to really have had a run of bad luck for the last year. Natalie's older sister had to go to the ER today, she has pneumonia. I think we are all looking forward to a fresh start in the New Year and praying it changes our fortune.
Merry Christmas my dear Spark friends. Your Energizer Bunny Spark friend needs her batteries charged up!

If your dad is on medicare and you think they are discharging him too soon, you can request that they keep him...at least until his doctor comes back on Monday. There is a form you or your dad will need to fill out, I think. This is something you can discuss with Patient Relations or a Hospital Social Worker. I forget the details.
Enjoy your community Christmas dinner tomorrow and the break you definitely need. Continuing prayers for your dad, Natalie and her sister, you and your DH. Blessings that the New Year will be a much better one for our family.
    Merry Christmas!!!
