A Father Went to Heaven Tonite

It was not to be that Dad continue on in his earthly form, he passed away tonite and has gone to his heavenly home. I spent the better part of the day with him. He did not feel good most of the day and I am regretting not staying with him tonite. I left about 8 as he was tired and sleeping off and on I thought he would rest easier without me there and he passed away about 9:30.
I have been trying to make arrangements as he will go back to Illinois for burial and contacting my brothers, etc.
He is at peace and I know it is for the best, but it doesn't make losing him any easier.

    I am so sorry for your loss. Please do not have regrets about not being there for your dad's transition into Heaven. It made it easier for him to be able to let go and go home. As you know, he was able to hold on until you left. I am so glad you had so many wonderful years with him and some great memories to hold on to. He would have wanted you to move on remembering him with love. You will grieve because it is the human way...but do not grieve forever. Remember the wonderful father who loved you with many smiles and happy times. Rejoice in the fact that he is now in Heaven...at home with the Lord and those who have gone before.

    I am so sorry for your loss. You helped him be independent. When he fell, I thought he might be sent to a nursing home from the hospital. It is far better to go home to heaven.

    My condolences on the loss of your father. I remember sitting with my mom the night before she died. I didn't want to leave in the morning, but she insisted. She died about an hour after I left. I still think that is the way she wanted it. Maybe that was the case with your dad, don't feel guilty about not being there. You were with him when it counted.     Try not to beat yourself up about not being there, I think you are right he did rest easier with your not being there, I even think your being gone may have made it easier for him to let go of his earthly body and go home.

    I'm so sorry for your loss, Pat. Grief is hard even when you know he had a good long life, so please take extra good care of yourself, especially since this will be a big change to your life.     Oh Pat, I am so sorry to hear about his passing. It is sad, too, that a fall precipitated his failing health, but I suspect he was very happy to be able to live independently all these years. You were a big part of him having that freedom, and I hope you will be very proud of your efforts to support him in that. What a lovely gift you gave him.

    Please don't beat yourself up for not being there when he passed. Most certainly you would have stayed had you known. You were hoping for another day.
