Those of you who have been following me on here know that our icemaker has been on the fritz since early in the year. We hesitated to schedule a service call because we know how that goes, they don't show up on time and with us going to radiation every single day we didn't want to worry about not being able to be here soooo we just kept putting it off. Now mind you, DH owned an appliance store and normally would have been able to fix this himself, but he hasn't felt good all winter and has limited eyesight now. Well, he finally felt good enough to tackle the job after he received his transfusion after our little scare down in Fort Meyers. We went and bought the new water valve and he attempted to install it, but just could not figure out how to get it to fit-he had a line with no place to attach it! He had our friend, Sonny, come and look it over and he could not figure it out either. Finally, he went back to the place we got the part and told them his dilema and that he thought he was missing a part. The lady at the counter was not a lot of help so he finally said to her, "Just schedule a service call so we can get this fixed!"
Today was the day for the service. The man came in and the first thing he said was, "This is not the correct water valve!" Voila, no wonder it would not work. Next thing he said,
"There are parts missing, did you break anything off?" No sir, that is exactly how it came out of the box! Luckily, he had the correct water valve with him, he had that installed, checked everything out, took the other water valve back with him and refused to charge us even for the service call since we had gotten the wrong part! He told DH that if he had gotten the correct part, he most certainly would have gotten it fixed himself. He could not in good conscience charge us because of the error made when we got the wrong part.
That is exactly what DH would have done when we had our appliance business, but we don't meet many people who feel that way. We will most definitely send any business we can their way. We know how hard it is for a small business to make it and word of mouth is truly your best advertisement.
It takes something like this to restore my faith that there are still good people in business!
