What Part of Urgent do Drs not Understand???

Thursday, June 07, 2012

On Tuesday my DH had his stress test and it was to check to see how stents were doing now that it has been a year since he had them inserted. It was also supposed to let us know if he could go off of the plavix which the dr thinks may have contributed to his GI bleed.
I made sure when we left there on Tuesday that the nurse knew about this and when she called on Wed to tell us things were good she didn't say a word about taking him off the plavix! So of course, I asked and she said she would have to talk to the dr and get back to me. Well, that was 24 hours ago and I haven't heard a word.!!
Also when we left the cardiologist's office on Tuesday, I drove straight to his primary care dr and told the nurse that DH was going to run out of the dexilant that was prescribed for him by the dr in Fort Meyers on Wed soooo the dr and the cardiologist needed to get together and decide what meds he needed to be on and we needed to do this ASAP! I still haven't heard from anyone there either.
I will be making more calls tomorrow morning as we need something resolved before the weekend. I am sure missing one pill isn't going to totally mess up anything but I don't want to tempt fate with going several days without something to coat his tummy as we certainly don't want to undo the progress we have made as his hemoglobin is back to 9.8 and it was 7.1 when he was hospitalized.
Sure is frustrating-I can't prescribe the medicine or make the decision. I know drs are busy, but this is important and I also need to try to get a mail order for 90 days here in 2 weeks as we are leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow for 6-8 weeks!

I needed four blood pressure pills to fill out what I would need to take for a two-week trip out West for our daughter's wedding. I called the doctor's office and was told the request had been forwarded to the pharmacy. Hubby went to the pharmacy and they didn't have the request. The pharmacist said the pharmacy would call the doctor. I had to get a whole refill to get four pills. I got them the night before we left for the trip, it ran that close.

I am hearing from more and more people that doctors do not communicate with one another and meanwhile the patient is left in the dark. Do what you have to do.

OMG, I do symphathize with you. There have been many times when I have had to get ugly to get things done with doctor's offices. God bless you and have a good time on your trip.

I can sympathize! When I need answers and the doctors don't call me back I keep calling until I get an answer. Sometimes it's not the doctors but the nurses and/or office staff that is the problem - they may not relay the information to the doctor in a timely manor. I know the staff at my doctor's office isn't the best about getting the information taken care of and I've complained to the doctor about his staff before. It's a little better now but not much.
Good luck. I hope you get an answer really soon.

Absolutely be the advocate for your husband that you are. Don't let the dr's offices busy-ness keep you from the information you need.

Do you know anyone with a couple of 3 yr olds? I once took my young children to an office (not dr) that was giving me the run around, and I allowed my kids to run around the office, being noisy, until someone gave me the info I needed. I did make sure the kids didn't do any damage, and it's something I wouldn't normally do, but BOY! was it ever effective! : )

Stand your ground and keep insisting on answers.
I know doctors are busy but this is someone's health
and wellbeing. Keep calling and get the answers you

I agree with SLENDERELLA that your hubby is fortunate to have you on his side. Good for you, Pat. I'm sorry you both are being so frustrated by all of this. Fingers crossed it gets straightened out before you head off on your latest adventures.

    Hang in there!

How frustrating!!You certainly aren't getting the answers you need. I find dealing with medical issues so very frustrating. It is hard when it is your own. It may be even harder when it is someone you care about and care for. Certainly hope you have gotten your answers by now. Stick with it. Your hubby is very, very lucky to have you on his side. Take care.

Wow, that would be very frustrating. Do they just expect people to end up in the ER because they're too busy to prevent it? I guess it makes me glad for the er but it seems inappropriate to risk it. Hope you get an answer tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip on cherries, I had no idea, but I happened to have ssome for my snacks this week since the were at the farmers markets. Maybe I'm not eating enough but I'll keep trying. Thanks Pat!
Hope your day goes better tomorrow.

OH that is so frustrating, they act like we can wait our lives away to contact us on there schedule or conveniently not calling at all. That is a tough call, but it sounds like with the GI bleeding that is more important to contact you sooner than later. You could try to contact your pharmacist and ask questions that may give you information that may be helpful.I am on Warafin blood thinner and it says the blood thinning may continue for a 1 or 2 weeks after you stop taking.I am not sure if Plavix is the same.Hope you hear from them, being persistent and keep calling may get a response, not a fan,but if they leave you no choice I would just keep calling.Best wishes to you and you DH. emoticon emoticon emoticon
