Home at last

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

I got to bring DH home from rehab today. I also had my 6 month dr appointment. Of course, today was the day she was running really late. I had a 9:30 appointment and she didn't come in to see me until 10:45! I had decided I was walking out at 11 as I needed to be at rehab. Of course, it was no rush since they fiddled around and didn't get the paperwork done nearly 1. I think that was so they could charge medicare for another day!!
I had wonderful results on my bloodwork-triglycerides are down to 109 and total cholesterol to 169. I was very happy with those numbers. Not so happy with my dr-she didn't even listen to my heart-gave me my results, checked pulse in my legs and feet and if I had feeling in my feet (not sure what that was all about!) and handed me my lab results and see you in 6 mo! NOT, I am changing drs.
Now to get into a routine at home that will work for us. DH cannot get the transfew chair over the thresholds in the house-we have them between the rooms and with a transfer chair it is hard to pull himself over them with just 1 foot.
Friends supplied us with dinner-a veritable feast. Another friend brought us homemade bread, and another some homemade mushroom soup and another is bringing us dinner tomorrow evening. We are so blessed!

Yea! Glad Bill is home now. What wonderful friends you have, making sure you have delicious food for a few days to give you and Bill the opportunity to settle in. I hope you're able to resolve the threshold/transfer chair problem.

I hope you're able to satisfactorily resolve the doctor problem, too. Sure they're in a hurry, but you have the right to enough of their time to take care of your questions and concerns. They also should be explaining why they're doing something.

I think you should switch too, at some point some Docs turn to the cash side and don't even pretend to care. Mine doesn't pretend to care but does what I tell him too! emoticon

Glad for you that hubby is back home.

Ask him if he is going to need to be a bubble boy after all this of late. emoticon emoticon

As for the door to home entry is that what you speak off? I am sure if you chat with the better of the carpenters he/she will figure out a better solution.. I always offer to hire them and they will refuse of course(well not me but you lol)...just a jesture.. then bake em some good to eat hehe

Sorry the doctor was too busy to really pay attention.
I'd switch doctors too. But DH is home now and you
will be busy helping him recover. What wonderful
friends bearing gifts of food. So you get homemade
    bread-just not mine. Enjoy!

Diabetics can have numbness and tingling in their feet and lower legs.
Glad you are going to find a new doctor.
Hope DH will continue to improve.

Doctor's are human and it is possible that something happened and all she was trying to do was keep things to a minimum and rush on to the next patient in an attempt to catch up. It doesn't work and it makes patients feel ignored and left out.

The foot exam is usually because if you have diabetes, your feet are the first to show sings of problems that other things are not showing. Your feet can literally die. It's called necrosis. Your toes go first. So make sure your doctor checks your feet carefully and you should be checking them yourself. Looking especially at your toes to ensure nothing is turning black. If you are monitoring your blood sugar levels and keeping up with that you are probably okay. I think the first sign is that you lose feeling in your toes. Sugar melts your blood veins like drain cleaner melts the crap out of the drain and according to some plumbers can melt your drain pipes. That's why sugar is like poison.

If you don't have diabetes, I'm not sure what she was doing, but I don't have to. I would suggest you be more proactive with your doctor. I know I was brought up, like most, to listen to the doctor and not question or demand to do it your way, but I have learned that they are not gods and that it is better if I am boss. I'm paying him so he's working for me, when I'm there. I know it's hard to find a doctor, but you want one you feel good with on many levels. If you are not happy with this doctor, then please find one you really like.

Mine wants to see me every 3 months, but I am going every month because I am trying to keep up on somethings, like you, and I want to see if I need to change something or if I'm okay to keep doing what I'm doing. I hate taking pills so I won't if I can fix it with exercise and diet.

SparklingSuccess to you on your hard work. I am glad your DH is back home. Maybe one of those great neighbors is a carpenter by trade or by hobby and can make an easy fix for your DH to make it over (or through) the transitions. Not sure what your talking about, but you might be able to temporarily remove the transitions or get a different transition between floorings to make it easier for him. You certainly do not want to make life more difficult and dangerous for him.

emoticon I am glad your DH is home again. Has your doctor been like that in the past? If no then she may have just been having a really bad day and letting her know about your experience and what went wrong from the patient's perspective might help ensure it doesn't happen again. I know it is a major pain in the backside to change doctors.

You deserve good results with all your hard work AND a good doctor who at least acts like she cares.
I bet Bill is thrilled to be home. Enjoy that and your kind friends. Hugs!

You have wonderful friends. I don't know how long your husband has been in rehab, but you sound thrilled to have him home.
Your doctor sounds like a jerk. Glad you are changing.
