Life is returning to "somewhat normal"

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

It has been an eternity (at least it seems like it has!) since DH's accident but we are beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. He has been able to get out of the cast first about 3 weeks after he broke the heel and into a boot and now the foot dr has said he can get out of the boot as the heel is practically healed. He will return in 6 weeks for final x-rays and if all is well at that time, he will be totally released by that dr.
He has been back to see the surgeon about 3 weeks after the surgery to pin his hip and at that time, he gave him permission to start putting about half of his weight on the leg. He has now been doing that for almost 2 weeks. He is finding it so much easier to get around with the walker since he doesn't have to use the boot. He actually didn't use the walker much until his visit with the foot dr on Monday. It caused more pain than helping. Now as long as he wears a shoe, he can walk with the walker.
His wrist is still bothering him so think we are going to have to have that rechecked as it has been nearly 2 months so thinking it should be doing better by now. He is wearing a brace on it.
He is still not able to help around the house but at least he is getting more self sufficient so that is a big help to me. I am no longer scared to leave him alone for more than a few minutes which is also a relief.
Considering where we were back in February, we are so much better off now. I think by June DH will be "normal"-if there is such a thing.
Be thankful for your health-you just never know when things will go wrong. We have been blessed with wonderful friends who have helped us so much. In fact, one friend, an electrician, can by today and fixed the switch on our ceiling fan that broke about a week ago. Friends are such a blessing and I hope all of you are blessed with many. I know I will try even harder after this to make sure I am doing all I can to help out my friends and those who I am not close to-being that person who does something to help others is a blessing to both of you.

Pat so glad your load is getting lighter. You do so much anyway. I would like to see you do some fun things! You need a break from doctors appointments!

I would bet you are already a good friend to all. You are very considerate and I doubt you take much for granted.

I'm really glad to hear he is doing well on the road to recovery -- what a relief and something to celebrate.

I echo other of your spark friends here -- you do not need to worry that you aren't being an absolutely terrific friend to your friends, neighbours and family. You always do more than your share. I aspire to your behaviour:) Hugs.

Pat this is awesome news!!! So glad that dh is able to move around more on his own. You are so right --- sometimes we take life for granted .... which happens. Don't think you have to worry about being the kind of friend that helps --- I KNOW you are. Take care!!
