The Week in Review
Saturday, June 08, 2013
Sometimes you wish you could just skip out on a week - but you can't, you just have to go on day by day. It seems every time we pick up the phone it has been bad news this week so here is to a better week next week.
Our week ended last week with the loss of a dear friend. We knew when he headed north about 6 weeks ago that it would be the last time we would see him as he has been battling stomach cancer and the doctors had told him there was nothing else they could do so he went to be with his family in NY. His girlfriend accompanied him and was with him till the end. Some more of our friends tried to contact her this week but her phone just rang and rang for a couple of days. They finally got someone to answer - it was her daughter - she evidently went back to his trailer and suffered a massive heart attack and in the space of just a few days, we had lost 2 dear friends.
Today we got a call from some very close friends that he is in the hospital with pneumonia. He has been battling bladder cancer and has been sick most of the winter so praying that they can get him back up and going.
As we enter the "winter" of our lives it is hard to say goodbye to those who are dear to us but it becomes more a fact of life every day. Now I truly understand what dad meant when he said it is really hard when you outlive your family and friends. It leaves a big void in your life.
On a more trivial note, we are doing a bathroom remodel-our grout has given way and water has caused a problem so we are having to gut the shower and redo it. I could not get the shower pan in the color I wanted locally so have ordered it and it won't be in till the 26th. Hoping the patch job will hold up for another month!
We are also doing an outside job-our gardens are edged with the black plastic edging material and it does a poor job of keeping the weeds out so we have been getting estimates from several landscape companies to put in the concrete curbing and had made our decision on who to go with-well, when we called him, he told us he had some bad news-someone broke in and stole his trailer and all his equipment last week!! We are not in a huge rush so will wait to see what happens-he can't go too long without replacing it-this is his livelihood.
DH's son is having surgery on his hand next week and had thought he might be able to come down while he is recuperating but we got the call-not going to happen. His BP is too high and they almost cancelled his surgery so he is going to have to stay up north to try to get this addressed and back in an acceptable range.
See we just don't want to answer the phone!!!
Hope all of you are having a good week.
