Boy is it hard giving advice to teens!! I am so full of self doubt!

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

I do not really want to go into too much personal detail about my poor son but suffice it to say that I had a real hard time explaining the concept from Jonathan Livingston Seagull: If you love someone, set them free; if they come back, then it was meant to be. And I told him that I have never made his dad feel obligated to stay in our relationship. If his dad stays in our relationship, it is only because he chooses to stay. And the same goes for me. (Granted, it would be really messy if we broke up now but that is another story!) My poor son did not want to hear that but I think after some thinking about this different concept, he understood that his GF/ex-GF needs to make up her own mind, free of his wishes or persuasion. He kept saying that she was making a big mistake and I kept telling him to let her make her own mistake. I could see his heart breaking and I so badly wanted to tell him to go over to her house and fix this. But I resisted that urge and stuck to my what I had said. Later, I told my hunny what I had told our son and he said my advice was fine. It was gutwrenching, tho!

Otherwise, trying to stick to my nutrition and fitness plans in spite of the nuisances that get thrown my way. Oh well!
