Believe in Your Prayers

Thursday, September 04, 2014

I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us–yes, the many good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses. Isaiah 63:7 (NIV)

Sometimes when I pray, I am praying but I am not really believing that my prayers hold any weight. Even as I have been praying I have been doubting that my prayers would be answered in the way I wanted them to be. This is probably not the most effective way to pray.

Yesterday, when I was in the parking lot at the grocery store, I was shooting up a prayer to the Lord. I talk to Him a lot in the car. And this thought pierced my prayer midsentence. You don’t believe that I have good things for you. I couldn’t even deny it. I simply burst into tears.

This past year was a year of prayer and fasting for us. We prayed for a house. We prayed for our friend Shelly to live. We prayed for our church to grow exponentially. We prayed for a lot of things. We prayed and then we prayed some more. And when God did not move as I begged Him to, I lost my prayer mojo.

You would think I wouldn’t be so fickle. Clearly, you don’t know me. But I know that Jesus isn’t done with me. When He zinged me in the parking lot with His truth, all I could say was, “You are right. Forgive me. Make me new.”

I think hands down it is the best prayer I have prayed yet. The truth is, Jesus doesn’t just have good things for me. He has good upon good upon good things for me. So gripping this truth with both hands, I am turning my heart toward Him once again. Rejoicing. Praying. Full of thanks. And that’s good.

Faith Step: Make a list of three things today: Something you can rejoice about, something you need prayer for, and something you are thankful for. Carry it in your pocket and read it often. Lift it up to Jesus and know that He has good things for you today.

Hope this reminds you as it does me, we must believe in our prayers and trust that God will answer them in His Time and with His Wisdom. Answers are not always what we expect but He will do what is right for us.

emoticon for sharing. Sometimes God allows me to be used by him to help myself after asking him, others he has answered in advance.

Boy did your blog hit home. God doesn't always answers our prayers as we would like HIM to but in HIS own way HE does answer them. I was very ill about 10 yrs. ago and not expected to live. When I woke I remember seeing angels all around me praying over me. When I told my friends they said yes, you were on lots of prayer lists. GOD is good. Now I'm not afraid of death, not ready to go yet but when HE is ready foe me I will go willingly. Thanks for the wonderful blog Pat. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS. Judy emoticon

Acts 12:1-17 is an example of this. The church was praying for Peter as he was imprisoned. An angel freed Peter and he went to where the church was gathered and they thought it was his angel. They accused Rhoda of being mad. They were astonished it was really him and that God had answered their prayers.

It is not believing that God is able to do what we ask, it is believing that He will. A great man of prayer was George Mueller/Muller.

I think many of us are like the church praying for Peter and when God answers with a Yes, it surprises us. Another great blog!

My pastor claims his standing prayer in heaven is for any and all of his prayers to be answered in God's divine, not permissible will. That would mean that Romans 8:28 would come to pass no matter what.

Sometimes the answer is just a simple "No" and sometimes a less-simple "Not now." We just need to accept whatever answer we get and keep plodding, walking, skipping, jumping, running along, but rest in the knowledge that His answer is the BEST answer for us. Keep the Faith!
