Forgiving myself, releasing the past and moving on

Saturday, March 28, 2015

I am 62 and have a lot of years accumulation of stuff to let go of. Like many, I've kept the same worn out, reckless and damaging habits that have kept me overweight, sick and bound.
As a Christian, I know full well the benefits of forgiveness and have applied it countless times throughout my life....to others....now I need to apply it to myself as well.

Flogging myself for sins past and present is not a requirement and is certainly detrimental to my health and well being. I can't change a single choice I've made or action I took...and I know that I am forgiven by God, no matter how deep the pits I dug or how dirty I got wallowing there...so I aim to take actions to set myself free of self condemnation and feelings of being "less than" good enough.

In taking those steps to being "free"........I can live the rest of my years with joy, recovery, hope, healing and peace. I long to be balanced and stable in every area of my life.

I know I am loved, accepted and worthy......I need to live like I believe it! I so appreciate the kindness of so many precious people here at SP who have encouraged me, prayed for me and been a friend to me through the years...blessings to you all

Sometimes I wonder about Jesus telling us to love others as we love ourselves. If 75% of the people I know did that, there would be a lot of hate being spread around. I know that I would never talk to my friends the way I self talk. I don't even think the things about my friends that I do about myself. Maybe we should practice loving ourselves the way we love other people.

Didn't Corrie Ten Boom say that God throws our sins into a big lake and hangs up a "No Fishing" sign?

Awesome thoughts Bren! You CAN be free of all the negative thoughts that bring us to mis-using food....Forgiving yourself is the best first place to start! You are a delightful woman designed to bring joy to your Creator as well as the rest of us! You are accepted and loved and worthy because of Him!

In spite of our countless trips off the straight and narrow path, He will always draw us closer and above all He desires our freedom from everything that burdens us. He came to bind up the broken hearted, To proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners...surely that is all of us who have found ourselves captive in a body that makes us unhappy or unhealthy, even when it is by our own hand...He desires us to be FREE!

Let's keep walking it out and appropriating everything the Lord has for us here before we go to see him there...

I have similar struggles. Our God is a God of forgiveness when you go to Him with the right heart. Yes there are consequences for our past sins sometimes, but our God is big enough and powerful enough and loving enough to get us through anything we may have to go through. As long as we focus on Him when those times get tough. We are blessed here to have friends that encourage us and stand behind us and remind us how truly God loves us. Know I am praying for you. Be blessed, Alice emoticon

I think that loving ourselves is one of the hardest - yet most beneficially thing we can do for ourselves! past mistakes are all part of the journey that we needed to make in order to get to where we are today! It is so hard to forgive and to let go of them but emoticon . I love that everyday is a fresh start to put the past behind us and move towards the future being the best that can be!! emoticon

God didn't make junk, the evil one is telling you lies! Tell him to shut up and be the beautiful person that God already knows you are. emoticon
