Reflections on my current exercise plan
Friday, November 20, 2015
My assignment for today in the challenge I'm taking is to blog about my current exercise plan. Today I felt happy to rollerblade with my children, because I was intent on soaking in the sunshine. I would have loved to have stopped and played at the playground with my kids. . . playground freeze tag with all of them, or soccer with the older ones, or "baseball" (with a HUGE plastic bat and 10-inch round rubber ball) with the boys. But the baby fell asleep in the stroller.
These days, it is so often the case that my exercise plan must fit around the family. Family first. And if the family has needs and my exercise plan needs to take back seat, so be it. Flexibility has been key. As the winter approaches, I see an even greater need for flexibility to be the main ingredient of my exercise plan. Here are some ideas.
Jogging (when it's not too icy) or treadmilling
Sledding with kids (great exercise!)
Aerobic house cleaning
"Card"io game with a deck of cards
Swimming at the rec center
Introducing children to racquetball at rec center?
Using an exercise video in the early morning or late evening
"Exercise stations" in the basement:
trampoline
stair-climbing
exercise biking
army-crawl across the basement floor
jump-roping in the utility room
sit-ups
push-ups
dancing freestyle
hoola-hoop
