Review of my Goals for 2018

Monday, December 31, 2018

Good-bye 2018! What a year it has been. I had some specific goals for 2018. I kept things simple and I didn't think it would be difficult, but I fell short on most measures.

1) Reach and maintain my “fighting weight.”
I reached it, but didn't maintain. Right now I'm 6.2 pounds over. I'm still weighing each day. I'm not out of control, but I'm definitely out of range. I know what happened. I've been struggling with depression and I haven't been mindful about taking care of myself.
2) Walk 5,000,000 steps.
I met (actually exceeded) this one. It's just a level of maintenance I been managing.
3) Strength training 2-3 times a week.
I still don't have a real routine. I belong to a team with monthly challenges and I do a bit of exercise most days. I don't feel I've made progress here.
4) Organize my photos, emails and paperwork.
I struggled a lot with computer challenges. Losing my personal laptop and all that went along with that contributed to the issues here. Focusing on my photography led to some serious relationship problems. I just stopped making progress with my photography in the hope of keeping peace at home.

I took a class that helped with my job, but other than that I have no other accomplishments for 2018.

I'm glad I took the time to step back and look at this. I'll give some more thought before I plan 2019.

Hi Aurlie, I am just getting here, so I am way behind too! Gosh I didn't know about you losing your personal laptop and everything on it! Wow, that is a bummer! I am guessing you are still trying to get that all straightened out. Oh and I deal with winter depression too, I heard that the Eagles are mating now, and they will have a family in 35 days, so winter is on the way out as far as I am concerned! I have been seeing lots of great photography on your feed so I am guessing that you are still using a fair amount of time towards that, That is so great! Never stop you take awesome photos! I hope 2019 is going well for you! Sending many blessings your way for a GREAT 2019!!! emoticon

I have maintained my weight within 3% for 5 years, until just before Thanksgiving. Since Thanksgiving I have put on 9.8 pounds, I was glad it was under 10, that would have sent me into a deeper depression. lol My older brother had a stroke just before Christmas Eve, so the party he has was cancelled. Thank the Lord he was alright and home within 2 days. He scared us, and got a piece of my Mom's mind for it.

Life always has it’s ups and downs. When conflict comes into your home it is draining. Try meditating to come to terms with any lesson that might be involved. But despite being in a relationship, your life is still your own and doing what you love is important and necessary. Sometimes time is needed to sort things through with other people, sometimes the courage of your convictions is required. Why is it necessary to him for you to live in a repressed manner? What are his concerns? Since I can’t know these answers then all I can suggest is to seek out professional guidance, with or without him. Please also be sure to give yourself a lot of credit for all that you do. Your impact on the world is bigger than you know. Keep your friends close, seek out lovely things, people and circumstances that make you happy. Every little bit helps and especially becomes relevant when someone is actively trying to hold you down. You are stronger than you realize and certainly equal in value in your relationship. Your partner needs to know that about you. Keep your courage about you for you are worthy in every way, and that’s just the way it is. No one can take that from you, when you finally recognize that in your heart of hearts, it will swing the tide in your favor, and it will change everything. Bull s*itters beware, the bull roar ends here for the truth will set you free. You’re strong Aurlie, you know it.

Sounds to me that while you may not have met all of your goals, you've done better than most. I'm trying to remember the same thing... and I've found it much more difficult to "keep on the sunny side of life" (do you know that very old song?).. not sure why... I just haven't felt as resilient. In light of that, this year I've decided that instead of specific results, I'm going to focus on attitudes and processes... the important factors that set the foundation for the results to happen. First and foremost, I'm going to speak and live my truth, and secondly, I refuse to allow anyone or anything to steal my joy. Just know you're not alone in the struggle, Aurlie! Keep the faith, and a most blessed and joyous New Year to you!
