Focusing on Things Within My Control

Monday, March 30, 2020

It is strange how the current world chaos has in some ways helped me improve my focus on weight loss and getting healthier. Rather than obsessing about the things I have no control over, it's been helpful for me to focus on those things within my control - like exercising, healthy eating and physical distancing.

In being hyper-vigilant about handwashing, physical distancing (really just driving between work and home), and limiting my time watching the news and online activities, it's left a lot of extra time for me each day. It's allowed me to focus on building healthy meals and snacks, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep and getting enough daily exercise to help alleviate the very real stresses so many of us are feeling.

And to my surprise and delight, these behaviors have actually started to take hold in my life and are starting to become healthy habits. I think we've got a ways to go until things will be back to "normal" - but in the meantime, focusing on the things that I can actually control has been very helpful for me, both physically and mentally.

Best wishes to all of you.

We can only do what is in our realm of reason. With the right attitude and strong will to succeed this will be your last time coming back to this.

You are so right that we can only control what WE do. Unless you are a front line worker, outside of staying home, distancing and washing our hands, we can do nothing to improve what is going on out there. As you said, focus on what can control. With any luck, we will all come out of this lighter, healthier and with a house that has never been so clean and organized.

It sounds like you are handling things very well. It's time for me to limit my news consumption, too. The reality of the front line of this pandemic is terribly upsetting, but you're right that there isn't much we can do about it except for hand washing and social distancing. My obsessing about circumstances isn't helping. Some of my work (English teacher) has been canceled, and while my pay will be lower, I find myself grateful for the extra time to log in to SP, clean up my desk, or try some new recipes.

It’s been very positive for me as well. The fact of knowing that my daughter is safe at home is refreshing. She is doing quite well with social distancing and online learning from home. To God be the glory...

Oh emoticon emoticon With every action or event, there's a positive reaction. You're hit the emoticon with the right attitude. We can all, accept the things we cannot change and make the most of the situation. emoticon emoticon
