Color to my Gray

Saturday, June 20, 2020

I like the color gray, you know, in between black and white. It makes other colors POP next to it. It’s so metaphorical of where I’m at in certain areas in my life or the goals I’ve laid out. I won’t even mention the ever-gray-cloud of COVID-19 that continues to loom over all of us.
Right now, I’m feeling like I could use an extra boost of “color” to my “gray”. You know, liven things up a bit...get ready for summer, and more things to open up so I can get social again. My old life with the hustle-bustle has changed to a new life as a single parent and a college bound son (a divorce is imminent, but details take a looooong time). I’ll be 50 next year....and wow, even my hair has more silver streaks than I can ever recall. I’ll be honest, it’s not easy. I know time will eventually make all these uncertainties giveaway to the new, but some days my steps feel more like trudging. What I find helps is to fall back and liken it to how much I enjoy a good solid work-out...the type that makes the sweat roll down my back and push through my set till I feel totally spent...only to go for the next set. I love the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) cuz that means I had a good workout. So rather than dwell on how different things are and cringe at the “pain”, I can embrace how different things are and reframe my mindset. I truly believe living a lifestyle focused on well rounded nutrition, fitness, and wellness is so important to get me (heck all of us) through the challenges we face in our day-to-day lives. Holy cow I found the colors to my gray!

Oh, my dear, changing the mindset makes all the difference in the world. YES, healthy lifestyles definitely make challenging times much more easy to navigate.

You must be so proud of your son going off to college. A new chapter for you both.

As for divorcing, I can only offer my sympathies and wish you all the best going through that. You are strong. It's a tough situation! But, to your HUGE credit, you're looking for the color in the grayness! And wow, you inspired me to do the same thing!
