Devastation in the Pacific Northwest!

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Thursday, September 10, 2020

This is us right now! Over 100 wildfires rage throughout Oregon, California, and Washington. We live in Eugene, Oregon where the fires are close! (two children and their families live in California).

Fires started on Monday here in Oregon and continue. A state of emergency should have been called immediately rather than waiting, but that did not occur. Now the planes and helicopters are unable to dump water from above. They must wait for a lot more smoke to clear first.

This is Oregon and Washington, (Called God's country) is on fire too! So far 36 lives have been claimed including 2 young children. I was born and raised in California, had two of my children there, and lived in Washington. The Pacific Northwest truly is a beautiful part of our America and it breaks my heart to watch things to burn to the ground!

This year alone, my husband lost his job due to Covid 19 and now the fires and skies are filled with smoke! I do not usually write blogs unless they are inspiring and uplifting. However, i am breaking my own rules and am sure people would understand. I know spark community is one of caring people.

We are told to stay indoors and do not venture outside unless absolutely necessary as the air is considered 'hazardous'!

This is the first day smoke has not come into our house, and we are thankful our two little parakeets have not been harmed, as their system is not at all like humans.

Not much to say--other than, appreciate each day and each other, as we never know what tomorrow brings!

Thank you for reading today, and i do sincerely hope things are well with you!

NEWS Flash.....Rain was predicted Monday--but we are still waiting!

I have been praying for you since the fires began. Ken's brother lives in Clatskanie, Oregon and the smoke was so bad that they drove to Washington and are staying in a motel there. We also have a niece and nephew in Portland, a niece in Eugene, and a good friend in Bend. We have two couples who have been our friends for years in California. One is in Northern California where the fires are so bad. We have been to all 3 states and it is truly a beautiful part of the US. When will we do something about Climate Change? We have ignored it for way too long.

Never worry about turning to fellow-Sparkers for consolation. We are close through the good and the bad.

OMG!! I cannot imagine - I heard on our evening news that a family perished because the family car wouldn't start. Unimaginable way to exit the planet emoticon I will keep saying prayers for everyone in that area of the country. The fire activity map on the news tonight had active fires as far east of you as Colorado and Wyoming emoticon If this keeps up, it will be every state west of the Mississippi. Stay safe...

Oh, my Lord, Jan my heart goes out to you and all the others in the Pacific NW, LESLIESENIOR & KURTZIE1998 & 4CYNDI who are going through the devastation of the 2020 fires out there. Being in north Tx we are far removed and don't get a lot of the full picture you have shared with us. Our spotty local news here of the fires is not as informative. However, I looked up your local KGW News and was able to understand better how bad it actually is. I feel so bad about the losses of your livelihood and your beautiful part of the US.

52BINCE you and Jan are going through and dealing with an awful lot with the loss of your job, COVID, and the awful protest in Portland (I hear you about the govt leaders not sitting on a terrible fire also allowing the riots) not to mention the horrible smoke and fires. I can not imagine how I would handle it all. Y'all are very strong people. First I hope and pray that the smoke continues to clear and y'all get rain soon to stop the fires. Then I hope you find a new and better job and are able to get through all of the things you can not control and have a better life. I believe like you that our prayers combined will be answered. These are very hard times for the whole world but especially for all of you on the Pacific Coast. We are losing a lot of good people and it breaks my heart. emoticon (((Hugs))) Bobbie

I pray for the safety and care of all those in the fight against the fires, those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I woke up yesterday to the orange skies.

Stay safe, take care, and if you need to go, please go!!

It is very scary and frightening, with the conflagrations in Washington, Oregon, and California. The air quality is horrible. I am praying for rain, and praying for all those who have lost their homes or businesses. Our beautiful forests are burning. Very sad.

    Dear Jan,
The pictures you shared are horrific. I have been watching on the news, I worry about the people and the animals lost. They are saying this will be the new normal. How awful is that. We have to be worried about global warming. We can not deny it any longer!

Please take care Jan, and vent as much as you want- your friends at Spark will be here to listen and give support. I am glad your parakeets are okay. My prayers for you and Hubby. emoticon emoticon

**HUGS** I so feel your anxiety, sadness and more. I love the wilderness areas and am always saddened when they burn. I know it will make way for new growth, but that takes time. I too live in a fiery area right now (well only kind of close, home not in danger, just our air quality). Today I was almost able to see the sun for the first time in days. Ash showers everywhere yesterday.

Hope the waters flow and put out that fiery dragon in your area.

Stay safe. Sparks is alllll about sharing ... and life is not always ... uplifting and positive.

We were within 2 miles from a devastating fire here years back. The birds were ... deafening.

Prayers and thoughts are with you and everyone.

It's ok not to always be uplifting and inspiring. We are human and it's alright not to feel that way right now.
These fires are so devastating and scary. Your Spark Family is here for you. You are in my thoughts. emoticon

Stay safe and please keep us posted when you can.

Thank you, Jan, for letting us know what horrors the Northwest is going through. My DH's brother lives in Eugene and we watch the news carefully. My prayers for everyone who is affected by this disaster and the firefighters trying to stop the fires. Here in the East, I am tuned in to the disasters brought on by hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding from storms and forget how equally devastating the fires are for CA and the Northwest. Stay safe.

I am very optimistic that our prayers will have this situation under control. I also would hope that anyone who reads this blog will implore their govt leaders to not sit on a terrible fire also allowing riots , but get on their case to move so destruction cannot do what it has done in the west.

I’m so very sorry. It is just devastating. We are experiencing the same in CA. Here in our town the El Dorado fire is still out of control and continues to shift with Santa Ana winds. We are also staying in. My husband is plowing again today, however. And helping neighbors if necessary with their fields. The whole state is on fire. Our fire was started by the gender reveal party with pyrotechnics that has been so widely publicized. No words to express the irresponsibility and sadness I feel.
Stay safe and out of the smoke as much as possible. Sending you much love and compassion today.
