Happy Nigerian Independence Day!

Happy Nigerian Independence Day! I was there in 1960.
Congo had gained independence from Belgium a mere 3 months earlier with civil unrest and 100,000 deaths. Some 'white' individuals died as well as tribesmen.
Although I was 10 years old, I was aware of the adult anxiety as October 1st approached. I knew that each child at KA had a small suitcase packed and that the American Embassy (whoever that was) would get the KA students on an airplane and out of the country immediately.
I spent hours at night worrying how I would be able to keep the children in our family together. Because during last furlough we had been divvied up among relatives while Mom & Dad did some fund raising stuff.
I was certain we would be separated. I was worried.
Years later we had one foster child from a large family. I negotiated and worked and was able to bring siblings from 3 other foster homes so that eventually we adopted the 5 siblings and raised them together in our home.
I know there was a direct link! and God!
