Last of The Summer Cereal

Granted it doesn't have quite the same ring as 'last of the summer wine' but I'm not a wine maker, therefore I don't have summer wine. Or winter wine. Or any season wine really. Though sometimes I used to make mulled wine when I was entertaining over the festive season. And occasionally on hot summer evenings, we'd have a 'wine spritzer' before dinner. But that was a long time ago. Now, if I have a glass of wine, it's just a bog standard glass of pinot grigio or some such.
Cereals though are a different matter. I'm really not a breakfast person. The last thing I want when I get up is food. I want tea - copious quantities of tea. However, I know eating breakfast is supposedly a good thing. So once I've been up an hour or two and had my copious quantities of tea, I have a bowl of cereal - normally topped with fruit. Hence 'winter' and 'summer' cereals.
In the winter, I tend to have porridge, weetabix [well stores own brand equivalent], shredded wheat, and stores own version of 'Readybrek' if I can find any at a good price. In the summer, cornflakes, branflakes, and homemade muesli. Which btw indicates the most important breakfast cereal ingredient for me is oats 'cos push come to shove, they'd carry me through summer and winter.
So now the nights are drawing in and there's a nip in the air. I'm using the last of my open packs of 'summer cereal'. Probably 3 or 4 portions left - enough to see the week out. I don't feel quite ready for 'winter cereals' yet though. Which is where the joy of toast and marmalade enters the equation. I'm also using up the last of my salad ingredients. I love salad but am starting to feel the need for something a bit warmer. Soon lunch won't be salad based, but homemade soup. On the upside, that means I get to play with the soup maker my eldest son bought me again.
