Online- Offline

Wednesday, October 21, 2020

First of all, it is very foggy, and warm. We hope for clearing by mid afternoon- we love these autumn walks. Yesterday the stairs to the playing field were busy, the colours so brilliant. One fellow, does two sets running, add 2 walking, at 77 years of age. We have become staircase friends. My speed up the stairs is not improving much, still worried about my knee, but I do love the exercise stations along the edges of the playing field, and the instructions provided. Pull-ups are a new goal. What strikes me as odd is the new methods for —- everything. Looks like I must go online more and more, and I don’t like it much- yet. Today my husband had a phone appointment with a specialist...set for 9:45, changed to 10:15, and of course, the phone rang just after 9 am, and of course, he was indisposed. But seems his bloodwork has improved , though I have no details re RBC etc, and I like to know. It’s “ see you in a year “ and bye bye. I also had a scheduled seminar for noon today , but received notice that the meeting started at 9 am ... what ? Then I couldn't join because I didn’t have the code... what code ? Oh boy, checked my secret list—no code. I missed it. But not missing anything else today. We had seriously heavy fog and rain... and now it is lifting. Yay ! We will walk outdoors, so much better than following someone online. When the instructor, who is alone, whoops, and yells ‘ good job ‘ it makes me laugh. Seems nutty to me—- I could be sitting on my butt. Clearly , I am unimpressed - new Zoom classes begin this week... passwords required among other sign in details. Maybe I’ll get used to it, but probably go it alone, just me and my step ( and weights, bands, and ball) and really good music. A friend sees his trainer weekly, and has a well equipped home gym...he loves it, prefers it to in person training. My son also has face time sessions with his trainer. It works for them. These uneven bars are interesting.. I do squats here , and a variety of leg raises ... Meanwhile, I get my step out and do a set or two, all by my lonesome...and good weather is predicted... back to the playing fields asap.

    Hi GG,
Your title sounds like what’s happening with me to: online-offline. “You are now offline” blah blah blah. I hate when that happens. But, I won’t change my service so I will just grin and bear it!

Nowadays there are so many things we do online: shopping, banking, messaging, etc. It’s a great convenience, but when we are “down”, it’s not fun.

At least your hubby’s bloodwork is good, and although you don’t have the details, it’s good to know that he doesn’t need to see the doc until next year.

At least you can do some workouts at your leisure.

Have a great rest of the week.

How nice to have the outdoor option. We have nothing like that here.

Because of our COVID numbers my SIL is teaching online. He teaches PE!
    Strange times indeed.

The Township installed outdoor exercise stations in one of our parks last year, but I must admit I've never used them... by the time I walk there, and know I have to walk back, it comes to 3 miles. But I should try!

We've had Zoom meetings for church, with mixed success. Some people have trouble getting on; the audio is spotty. But it's what we have to do now. According to an ad on tv, the problem is that home internets are not strong enough (or maybe fast enough?) to handle Zoom.

Maybe we will get used to it, or (maybe) some day we will be able to go back to in-person meetings.

I also am doing more of my own routines. I have tried a few Zoom and Facebook video classes, but they are harder for me to stay motivated. It is a very interesting time we are living through. And the flaws of our health care infrastructure (and deliberate ignorance) here in the US are very evident.

I'm scheduled for a virtual appointment with an Endrocrinologist. I hope it works better than my first virtual doctor. Its a different doctor.

I hate having to wait for a call back. They never call when they say they will.

Oh my goodness, all of those missed calls and meetings because of internet scheduling and zooms not being correct. How maddening for you! It upset me just to read about it.
My husband is home this week attending a conference over web calls......A conference we should be in Florida for, as type this. Fun dinners, meetings, and sight seeing and beach for me while he works.
I went to the ones in 02, 04, 06, 08, 16, and 18. This is all so upsetting. And even more so because it is so out of our control. Nothing to be done to change it.
I hope you’re doing good otherwise. Your walks and outdoor exercising sounds wonderful.

Oh I know. This virus has brought about many changes, some of which I don't care for, but some of which can be useful. Guess we have to roll w/the punches.
