Yesterday was a beautiful day so I changed up hikes and hit one I knew would have great view points. It was cold, frost on the ground cold since we were higher up which gave for a more challenging start. The trail I picked for my hiking buddy and myself was a total of 12KM, a combination of road, gravel path, muddy trails and apparently stairs.
I love fall hikes when the leaves completely covered the ground.
In the muddier sections it was nice to find the occasion make shift bridge.
The views from what we thought would be the high point was incredible. It was great to have views of the ocean and city.
After 10KM we hit this. Oh my. We stared, we kept repeating things like, "One step at a time." "I believe in us!"
500 stairs, or to put in perspective, 50 flights of stairs. AFTER hiking 10KM of hills.
After the first flight there was a break so we thought this wouldn't be too bad, stairs break, stairs. Ya, no, just the one break then all stairs. We passed a couple people as we went up on their break, both had done the short route and commented how they weren't ready for this.
Hang on, short route?
They had done the 3KM route ending with the stairs, we let them know we had done the 10KM route. I'm not going to lie, it felt good to see their jaws drop. My ego enjoyed it.
By the time we finished we had done 12KM and all those stairs. My legs were like jello! We had another couple at the top of the stairs give up accolades for our accomplishment. Both of us really appreciated the encouragement, this was definitely a harder hike than what we had done this for awhile. It felt so good to complete it.
Tomorrow is another hiking day with another hiking buddy. It won't be as difficult but it's also one I've never done before. I'm excited about it, should be a foggy morning so I chose one that would be along the river and should be fun. I know have three hiking buddies, all at different skill levels which is great for me to be able to mix things up. I have one that snow shoes and wants us to do a lot of it this winter, another that wants to learn. I may have a small bubble, but we're an active bubble.
Sorry about the sideways photos, the links show broken for me so I can't turn them.
