11/29/20 - Bedtime

Sunday, November 29, 2020

I pulled out my trusty slow cooker, and I'm making white chili that includes lentils, black beans, onions, garlic, chili powder, salsa verde, mild green chilis, and butternut squash. According to the recipe, the prep time is supposed to be 20 minutes. As if... Peeling and cubing a butternut squash is time consuming, and the onions, garlic, and chili powder had to be sautéed. I have to say that my prep time is always longer than a recipe suggests. Maybe I'm just slow.

I finally read my water meter and paid the bill. I have a half basement with a crawl space, and the water meter is located in the crawl space. To read it, I have to get on my hands and knees and use a flash light to see the numbers. It's not my favorite chore, because I also have to make sure the kitties don't try to get under the house. I'm happy it's done.

I was watching a news program this morning, and it was reported that 1 in 8 people are struggling to afford food during this pandemic. I shop at Jewel. During the holidays, they collect money to help feed needy families. During the holiday season, I generally donate a dollar here and there, but this year I decided to step up with a larger donation. Our community has made it a priority to give at our Jewel. There are certainly much larger stores in affluent communities, but our store consistently has the most generous shoppers. They collected $85,000 last year, and this year's goal is $100,000. They're already half way there.

Sweet dreams everyone!!!

That would be a real pain to have to crawl under there every month. I sure would ask about having the meter moved for safety reasons.

We had the same water meter problem when we bought our old house. Bob called them about it and they came and relocated it outside on the side of the house. maybe worth a try if you haven't already tried. You are so right... it IS the year to step up our donations... WTG Jewel Stores. emoticon emoticon

emoticon I've been watching for the notice of your post to pop up. I'm trying to be more timely tonight.

Tomorrow is going to be a chili and chilly day here.

No need to read the water meter here, we have well water, AND, it's filled with sulfur and iron. I think I would glad read the meter to be rid of it.

Blessings for you and all those who donate to Jewel. When the bell ringers appear, my question is always does it stay local. These are tough times. We all have to do what we can.

Stay safe. Be well. Hope it's a great week for you. emoticon
