It’s here! The Winter Challenge starts tomorrow! If you’ve never done a 5% challenge before, just know that it’s a great way to stay focused on losing weight while getting tremendous support from like-wise minded peeps on your team. This will be my 4th challenge and I’ve had tremendous success. However, during the holidays this year, I slumped off and gained almost 10 pounds. Ugh!
This past week has been our practice week. I call it my cleansing and reflection week. First, I cleared the house of all those yummy Christmas goodies I baked during the holidays (what was I thinking??). Then I got busy eating healthy again. For me, that means yogurt/fruit for breakfast, salad w lean protein for lunch, healthy afternoon snack, and a healthy dinner. Good portions, lots of water, and reduced wine intake. A tough week. My body was screaming for foods that I was denying it!
I also started walking again. I hate the cold, so this has been a challenge for me. Trying to find the right balance of layering to keep warm, not overheated, and doesn’t weigh too heavy. I think I’ve got that figured out now. I’m determined to help my (non-Spark) team reach our goal of 2021 miles this year. And since it is a virtual walk, I’m counting the miles I log on the dreadmill, my walks, the stationary bike, AND the row machine! Why not?
What I love about my morning walks is my time to reflect. This week, I’ve noticed how difficult it was getting back into the groove of my healthy lifestyle after the holiday madness. Don’t get me wrong...I was walking and trying to eat healthy during the holidays...just not as regularly as I usually do. And I was indulging in sweets...that’s my Achilles Heel. But over the course of this week, I’ve come to enjoy eating salads again. And notably, I realized how lazy I had gotten when I was “on holiday”. Energy begets energy, and I have much more energy this week then I did the entire holiday season. But it took a few days to get here.
So...I’m looking forward to the challenge. I plan to lose those pesky 10 pounds...well, now 8...and get back to Onederland. I’ll stay in Onederland for good this time...and keep striving toward my goal of 84 total. Once I get there, I’ll decide if I need to maintain...or reach for more. Wish me, and my team mates, good luck!
