I did my first 5K in the pouring rain, posted a blog about the experience and set a PR (LOL - my first) of 40:19.
Thank you for cheering for me!

A bit of a late post, but I raced over the weekend. An abridged (would you believe it) race report in the blog.

Melliekmo, I wear Brooks running shoes and they are not nearly as heavy as Sketchers. You will find the perfect shoe!

Each one of them have been a bit different, as far as course and weather. I'm planning a trip this weekend to go to a running store and have them analyize my form and such. The ones I have seem to be kind of heavy (and I had thought that when I purchased them so hindsight..you know) That is the plan for this weekend.
Thank you for the help and concern.

MELLIEKMO, I'd be really concerned about running in your sketchers. They're just not designed to withstand the impact that running puts on your joints. If your Nike's hurt, then they are probably the wrong running shoe for you (I can't wear Nike because they are too narrow) but you shouldn't give up on running shoes altogether. Were you fitted at a running store? I wouldn't want you to damage your calves, knees, etc from not having the right support.

Also, was this the same course you ran last time? Differences in the amount of hills, weather, etc can make for a slower time.

I'm glad you had a great time though!

Ran the "running with the Squirrels " 5k Saturday. Time was a minute longer than last time. I think I'm going to go back to running in my sketchers vs my nike's, even though they say they are running shoes, 1 they feel so much heavier, and 2, they make my feet hurt WAY quicker than my sketchers ever did (or is that a mind thing lol)

Sooo next 5k will be done in the good ol sketchers, I used them at the gym today and did 2.25 miles and my feet never hurt (my calves however are ready to revolt, jump off, and kick my bahooty)

Hope everyone that ran this weekend had a great time. Even though my time was slower I had a blast.

I ran a good race yesterday and finished two minutes faster than last year over the same course. AND I was third in my Women-Over-55 age group and won this cool pair of running socks. More details in my blog. Thanks for the team support!

I ran my first 5K today (June 13th) and am so proud of myself. :) 32 minutes flat! I hurt my leg last week so I couldn't run at all since last Sunday... it felt so good to get out there - when I wasn't wanting to vomit from effort, of course. LOL.

YAY.

7K "Frauenlauf" this afternoon here in southern Germany. The weather is perfect for it, a big relief because we've been having monsoons this past week.

I think I'm back! Although my knee hurts a little, I got a 2+ min PR on my 5K!!! I started out way too fast, but I was able to sprint to the finish to get a 25:54. I am so excited.

I also won a gift certificate for an oil change, which I really need, so it was a very productive evening :)
