I'm a member of the 75-79 age group and was happily married to my second husband, Don for 28 years, until December 24, 2018, when he died of a massive heart infection. I’m learning to cope with my new life and try to find comfort in happier times. I’m the mother of five, step-mother of 5, grandmother of 9 living grand children, one deceased grandson who was killed in a car accident on December 26, 2016. I also have 14 step- grandchildren, one great grand daughter and 22 step great grands. I was also the sister and legal guardian for my mentally handicapped brother, who I was extremely close to. Sadly, he passed away on Christmas Day, 2015. As you can see, I have had 3 major losses right around Christmas in the last 3 years?
My "history" is that I was a certified exercise instructor at my Y for 15 years from 1970 -1985. When I tapered off teaching the classes and became the recreational director of my local senior center, I went from a very active job to a sedate one. That's when I started putting on weight. I've continued over the years to do strength training. In my more active years, I was also a runner, who did road races frequently. Those were the good old days! Because of increasing problems with arthritis, my long runs have turned into short walks and I had a total knee replacement on July 26, 2018. Over the years, my weight has gradually gone up about 20 LBS. I'm post-menopausal and HUNGRY all the time I still work out with weights 2 times a week. When I’m in Florida for the winter I try to go walking, 5 days a week. From December until May, I teach a low impact aerobics class twice a week.
My husband was retired from the Navy, after 24 years of service. After retirement he became is an avid cyclist, putting in 100-150 miles a week on his bike, up to a few months before he died. He has many medals and trophies for his efforts and I continue to be very proud of him.

Grace, thanks so much for your encouragement and wise words on my blog. You're so right about women giving in to what others want so much of the time. You also zeroed in on the fact that Randy losing 2 of his cousins started me pondering my own mortality. They were both within a couple of years of my age and it does make one think.

I've gotten into the habit of drinking little small glasses of sweet tea a couple of times a day (half water & half sweet tea) as well as mini Snickers and muffins that I make for Katie. I also drink a lot of water and a lot of unsweetened tea (with no sweetener at all - not even artificial sweeteners). I'm making a concerted effort to reduce all that now. I wish I thought I could cut all the sugary things out "cold turkey" but I don't think that would work for me. Today was a much better day with eating. I ate lean proteins and had some fiber, as well, and fill more satisfied. Thanks again for all your support. You're the best!!!

Hi Grace. Thanks for the Goodie. No, I wasn't warned about the bleeding even though my doctor couldn't get it stopped after the procedure right away and commented on that. I go in tomorrow for post-procedure check and I will definitely make it known that I was scared to death. Harry took care of me, got me some ice, raised my leg, etc. I would have called the doctor right away but they would have just told me to put pressure on it--which I already knew to do. My whole body--mostly my knee and thigh areas on the procedure leg--have been hurting for the past 2 days. I keep taking my Ibuprofen and rest a lot. Every day I feel better. It's interesting--the first procedure a month ago hurt more during the procedure but when I got home Harry and I went on a long walk and I never had any pain. This past procedure didn't hurt as much (though it did hurt some) during the procedure but the after-effects have been lousy. Good thing I only have 2 legs!!! Love you, Bonnie emoticon

Thank you so much, Grace, for the Sunshine Goodie. I'm feeling much better this week. Don't know what was affecting me so much last week but probably the confines of the Convid-19 pandemic and all the protesters in DC. Seeing everyone around me in masks gives me a very strange feeling. Sometimes I have to tell Harry we have to leave immediately when we are in a store and all I can see are people in masks (even when I also have one on). And people trying to "keep their distance" from me makes me feel as though "I'm infected" even though I'm not. I just want to go home and cry. I do have some claustrophobia issues so maybe that's part of it. I don't know. Maryland has opened Phase II of opening up businesses and activities so maybe things will get better soon. I hope so.

Have a Safe and Great Trip back to CT. Love you.
