I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest. We have 3 living children, 2 DILs, 2 DGSs, ages 17 and 14, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our great-grandchildren, 2 girls and a boy!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy well over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have had both hips replaced due to osteoarthritis and hauling excess weight around is not good for them. So, in the interest of preserving my joints, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the younger generation for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!

My Goals:
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and working on my fitness.

My Program:
My program is also simple:
1. I will be focusing on monitoring my calorie intake and utilize WW as much as possible. This will include getting an appropriate balance of protein, carbs and fats.
2. I will participate in Silver Sneakers (when they become available again) and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week. Fitness may be my friend, but I'm still trying to get make it my best friend--difficult since I'm not really much of a fan. LOL Until the Y reopens, I will utilize SP and YouTube videos at home.
3. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 2021 5% Winter Challenge, as well as my team activities.

Personal Information:

Other Information:
I love to read and work on genealogy, and spend as much family time as possible with our grandsons and greats. Notice I do not include exercise in my "loves," but I do make myself work on fitness, with that as the over-riding goal: functional fitness.

HI Jeannie, but he did explain the money aspect of the loss of $$$ on Sparkpeople. No site is cheap to run and keep up with, and well we are free. I HATED the ads, LOL MANY of us did (it was slowing down my computer so much) so opted to pay the ,, hmmm I was in on the first offerings, I think it may of been 12.99? At the most 19.99, but I was THRILLED TO PAY THAT!! Not sure if you also did buy into the Premium Coaching? Most sites change a monthly fee,, NOONM does after the trial 43 a month, WW does 21.99 a month. They have to in order ot cover their costs. For 20 years (I've been on for 10 1/2 years) it was just that one time fee.

Sparkpeople can't get the ADS it once did, so the income for them is just not there. I had read LOL so many comments and I WAS ONE Of them who'd on an ad see ICE CREAM etc. and LOLOL it drove me crazy!! So yeah the ad system just wasn't working. It's why other sites do not do them.

I hope this helps? Have you joined the 5% on FB? Sorry, I can't remember who doesn't do FB and who does. Many hugs, and if you'd like to jump into the final 5% on Sparkpeople you can, just let me know or go to my page, click on the 2021 Summer 5% Challenge hit JOIN than scroll down to the CHOOSE YOUR TEAM NOW! MANY Hugs hon!!

Thank you for reading my blog “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn”
So many different examples of resilience shared in the comments.
When I check out the page/blogs of those who have taken the time to read mine, I often meet someone new with whom I share much in common. My husband and I are also 70+ with 3 children and older grandchildren.
I see that Cheri is a mutual friend and from her comment I realize you and I have grandkids whose have had important education milestones disrupted by the pandemic. We had 3 in that category (college and high school). As Cheri suggests, we can only hope it will make them more resilient as they face life’s challenges.

I feel bad for your grandson graduating in a pandemic is anything but normal.I hope that he has lots of people tell him his efforts are wonderful,I admire the children who have stuck it out and worked harder than ever to graduate in less than stellar conditions. You can tell him I said what he did is harder than five miles walking to school uphill in the snow.Working in isolation requires a steely nerve not everyone has your grandson will do well in life!
