    Just prioritise it for a few weeks. It's one of these things that is the trick of life - if stuff stresses you out the first thing to have to do is RELAX - which is the very hardest thing to do when you are in the midst of stress - but it's the ONLY thing that works - you can't get anywhere with a racing mind and a tense body. I think the other thing that I need to add to this list is that you need to put time in to relaxation to store up for later - like a relaxation bank - then you have 'savings' to draw on when times get tough.

    Hi Jennifer

    I am doing the SparkPeople Better Sleep Challenge and it has really helped me focus on and deal with my dysfunctional sleep habits rather than just struggling on. I really needed to take action as I started a new job last Tuesday and I needed to get things sorted before that.

    The key things (for me) have been:

    * Regular patterns of getting up and going to bed - sticking with this has really helped me

    * No day time naps - I used to be terrible for doing this - it mucks things up

    * Using meditation, body parts relaxation and visualisation techniques (these have really worked for me)

    * Wearing my FitBit for sleep monitoring - this has reassured me that I am sleeping through most of the night even though the times of waking seem predominant - it's just really helped me to have more peace of mind that I am going to get a good few hours of sleep (even if broken sleep) and somehow that has translated in to me sleeping better.

    * No liquids 2 hours before bed time

    I am waking earlier than I used to and now I'll just get up and do some exercise as I don't tend to go back to sleep - 5:00am is the earliest I would get up. If I wake at say 3:00-4:00am I'll go back to the body parts relaxation meditation techniques - it seems to help. Above all don't stress that you're not sleeping - just accept it and relax in to it.

    I drink a lot of water, so I know that it's not an issue. I average 200 ounces daily.
