What you see today is not all that I am. I am more than a number on a scale. However, for too long I have not taken good care of myself, and now I'm paying for it with health issues. I need to lose 67 more pounds and I know that I am now in a place in my life where I can do it and keep it off.

Hi. My name is Susan and I live in northeast Florida. I'm 41 years old. I'm married and have 3 sons over the age of 18 and an 18 year-old step-daughter.

I'm sorry that we're all here, but I love that we're all in this together. :)

My Goals:
I need to lose 70 lbs. Two years ago, I was up to 263. I'm now at 222 as of 12/28/11. 70 more to lose, and then I'll be at my goal weight of 152. I haven't weighed that in 13 years. I'm 5'7" and have a large bone structure. Wish me luck! I want to get off my blood pressure med and not hurt so much. I suffer daily from arthritis and back, neck, shoulder, hip and knee problems. Some days I hurt everywhere, and I know I'll feel better when my poor body doesn't have to carry this extra weight.

My Program:
I used to use the treadmill daily, do cardio DVD's, lift weights, and do other things. At this point, my doctor has advised me not to do anything because I could make my injuries worse. So for now, I'm restricting my calories to between 1200-1500 a day, and following the other guidelines for fat grams, etc. I walk with a cane, and on days I don't hurt too bad, I walk around my yard.

Personal Information:

Other Information:
I had my first son when I was 19 years old, and my twins sons when I was 22. It was a lot to handle, but I thought that it wasn't so bad, because they'd all be 18 by the time I was 40, and then I'd still be young and could start a wonderful new chapter in my life. Now, my body is broken because I didn't take care of myself all those years when I was taking care of everyone else. I want to find myself again. I want to be healthy enough to have fun and do things with my gorgeous and wonderful husband.

People disappear for all sorts of reasons. Life gets in the way, we forget or change our views on what we deem is important, we get buried under stress, frustration, illness. We sometimes give up, throw in the towel, or just promise ourselves that once things get better/easier/calmer, we will hitch up our socks and come back fresh. We've all done it. We've all been there. And if perhaps, you just need a supportive hug, or a helping hand or a word of inspiration, please know that I am offering it to you with no judgment, no guilt. It seems like it's been a while since you've been here and I just wanted to let you know that you are missed.

I know I'm a couple days early, but I may not have time to post on the weekend, so...

~~ If only for today: smile a little more, sing a bit off key, laugh loudly and long, dance, skip, jump, play. Eat with your hands, hug every kind soul that crosses your path. Finger-paint, face-paint, body-paint. Do something brave. Squash a fear. Get out of your shell. Wear something sparkly. Be wild, be strong, be silly. For being foolish can make you happy but being happy will never make you a fool. ~~ Michelle

Happy Almost Spring!! This coming Tuesday marks the Spring Equinox and in preparation for the first day of the new season I would like to wish you a brand new start, never-ending moments of poise and balance and a joyful tip over on the scale to the side of light. I wish you a new dawn, an eternal youth and a morning star to wish on. Whatever battles you are fighting, whatever stresses may come your way, may they melt away with the winter and may you be granted a time of new light and a new life where your wildest dreams come true. ~ Michelle

"Celebrating the Spring Equinox: The spring equinox is one of the four great solar festivals of the year. Day and night are equal, poised and balanced, but about to tip over on the side of light. The spring equinox is sacred to dawn, youth, the morning star and the east. The Saxon goddess, Eostre (from whose name we get the direction East and the holiday Easter) is a dawn goddess, like Aurora and Eos. Just as the dawn is the time of new light, so the vernal equinox is the time of new life." - from http://www.schooloftheseasons.com/spring.h
