There are some goals that you don't even know you have. You act as if..... because you really don't believe you can.... and if you don't ACT as if it is possible, then there is no possibility of success, right? Then surprise! One day you realize you did it. And it is.... very emotional... realizing you could reach a goal. Realizing what or who you really want to be. Realizing you can do anything one step at a time.

"It is hard to have confidence in yourself. So tempting to give up after trying and failing. Yet we all MUST keep trying. Success is just waiting to happen and we have to give it a chance." I wrote this to an SP member and was so struck by my own words that I decided to copy it onto my page to read again and again when I feel like giving up. Who knew I was so smart?

"To have faith, is to trust yourself to the water.
When you swim you don't grab hold of the water,
because if you do you will sink and drown.
Instead you relax, and float."

I joined SP in July 2008 and have seen small but definite changes in my life. I don't try as hard as I used to and funny enough that has been a good thing. I used to diet or take on hard fitness programs.. and quit. I'd sabatoge myself or life would happen and I would give up. Now, I exercise regularly and with more variety. I have learned to eat with an awareness of carbs, fats and protein and spread my food over the day. I rest and get better sleep. I have trimmed my blogs and kept the meaningful ones. It's a slow journey for me but I realized today it is downhill since I came to SP. That's a GOOD thing, lol. I have diabetes and 50 years old so, you know, it is really hard to have the scale show my progress. I have let that go. It is about being accountable and as I get used to a new "habit" making it a part of my lifestyle. I think my new friends on SP will continue to challenge and inspire me to be all that I can!

SP has shown me that I can live healthier. I have physical goals, eating goals, drinking water goals, sleeping goals, lol - sexy goals... and I want to feel strong, fit and toned. SP is also helping me control my blood sugars. I am learning to live now the way I want to live in the future. The bonus is I am losing weight.

Physically: I swim, do aquafit. I'm a Rideau Trail Nut because I am writing a historical fiction about the building of the Rideau Canal which goes from Ottawa to Kingston and I am determined to walk the length of it. I have an artificial knee but have discovered walking with poles gives me stability and confidence to walk rough terraine plus build some arm strenth. Strength training has revved my metabolism and toned my body so I feel... sexy.

I run a small bed and breakfast. A year ago my dream was to make it spa/fitness oriented and as of January 2010 that dream has become a reality. When I have SP guests it is a gift to my program as we can eat and exercise together.

Problems: My biggest problem is consistancy. Life happens. I balk at failure and at success. That's the beauty of SP because it helps me build healthy habits. When something goes wrong... which is always does... SP helps me regroup my goals and continue on. I'm in for the journey!

"If you can't fly then run. If you can't run then walk. If you can't walk then crawl. But whatever you do, keep moving." - Martin Luther King, Jr

"Some people come into our lives and quickly go, while others stay and leave footprints in our hearts and we are never the same." Thank you Spark Friends.

"Dear God,
Please free me
from false appetites
and take away my pain.
Take from me my addicted self,
and show me who I am.
Unchain my heart
so I might live
a freer life at last.
Amen"

I am finally in onederland. Maybe for good? I do Low carb, high fat eating. I have an eating disorder so eating sugars and flours can trigger a binge. I follow Jason Fung's "Obesity Code" and "Diabetes Code" guidelines and do fasting.... anywhere from skipping one meal (breakfast) to my longest fast of 100 hours. It's a slow journey but my waist is now 40 inches and my goal is 35. My blood sugars are now all below 6.0 and sometimes as low as 5.1. This to me is proof my new way of eating is right for me. I lead aquafit twice a week and walk my dog most days for at least a half hour. The B&B may be closing soon and who knows what will happen then... but I am grateful to OA for teaching me three meals a day with nothing in between, spark people for learning consistency and confidence and that nothing is too small a step forward. I still have lots to learn even after more than 10 years here and more than 80 pages of blog entries!

Update: I am finally going to pick my Rideau Trail end to end badge in May 2020 from when I finished the trail in 2011. It took me 5 years to walk (not virtually, I did every inch!).

Thanks for the link to the Paper Towel Theory in your favorites! I found the thread, scrolled to the bottom and then went to the blog. I liked the post so much I left a comment, even though it was written earlier this year.

I love the God story you shared on my blog! How cool is it when He answers our prayers...so often in ways we never anticipated or didn't realize we needed. I'm sending love and prayers your way (and Kathryn's).
