I have a great niece and nephew that stay with me quite a bit. Their ages are 4 and 6. When they come to my house they always have to have a snack. Well, duh!
Well, their snack of choice prior to my joining sparks was junk food because that's what I loved. They were parroting my eating habits which was not good a good thing.
I didn't tell them I was going to quit buying the junk food. I just didn't continue to replace it when the stuff was gone. Slowly, fruit, yogurt and veggies became my snacks.
Ever since they were born, the only thing they have seen me drink is water with the exception of my morning cup of coffee. If someone asks what I want to drink when they are around, they will chime in and say "Pammie just drinks water."
Now when they come to my house they ask what kind of fruit or yogurt I have or ask what kind of smoothy can we fix. They don't even miss the chips. They will drink juice I keep for them, but will also ask for water. Very cool.
They are at such an impressionable age, I didn't want to contribute to bad eating habits. Right now they are both healthy and thin. I want them to stay that way. I want them to start making good choices now so when we're not there to help guide them, their choices will have become second nature.
So I guess the point I'm trying to make it that you never know who may be watching you while you're on this journey. You can make a difference without even know it.
