Find the right fit...

When I joined this community at the end of last year, I was really caught up in the moment, I guess. When I was learning to navigate the site, I was told to join a group and was given a monumental number to choose from. Well, every team I looked at seemed to me, to be a perfect fit. Suffice it to say, I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing so I just clicked away and my page was full.
There, I had done my job. I thought, "how awesome was I to be a member of so many groups." I was sure i must be the best new Spark person that had ever joined. I'm sure my competitive nature had nothing to do with the huge number of teams I had joined.
Well, I didn't realize that I was going to have to do "stuff" in every group. I was overwhelmed to say the least. It seemed as if I was always a step behind in everything I was trying to do. I just didn't get it. I thought that this was just going to be to much work for me. You know I have to have fun if I'm going to do something!!!
Maybe I'm just not the super human being I think I am. I couldn't handle 75 groups. Maybe some people can. However, once I went through and pared down to the 5 I enjoyed the most, it began to be fun. This was manageable. I could support and be supportive.
The best thing I have done on Sparks is join a group called Shape Up for Summer Challenge. This group is awesome. It's not a gigantic size group so you really do get to know people. But the best thing about it is that I am held accountable for all things...good, bad or ugly. It's accountability with love and support. I can't say enough about this group.
So, the whole reason for this rambling blog is to say, especially if you are new, pick 1, 2, 3 or what ever the number of teams that is good for you, and give them your all. It's so rewarding when you can complete all the challenges, etc., have fun and lose weight along the way. And don't forget the awesome friends you can make.
I know as time goes on, and my needs change, I will move in and out of many groups. But for right now, I'm happy with the teams I'm on.
Also, as a post script, if you don't have a buddy, I encourage you to get one. My SP Class broke our buddy list down by the amount of weight you wanted to lose. I was so lucky to become friends with several great people from my buddy group. I couldn't do it without them. They have taught me a lot.
