C25K - Week One

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I've always wanted to be a runner. I've never felt very good at it, and I've never stuck with it for more than a week or so. I generally prefer things like dancing. A little more fun, I think.

My friend Jenn started the C25K (Couch to 5K) program this week, so I thought, "Heck, it's worth a shot!" For those of you who don't know, it's a 9-week program to start running. It's like circuit training, in that you walk for a bit, run for a bit, walk for a bit, etc. There are podcasts you can download that play music and tell you when to walk and when to run. That's very helpful. I'm doing it on my treadmill, since the weather's getting so hot (and rainy!). Plus my treadmill keeps me moving a little faster than the sidewalk would. I like to slow down.

I did my first day on Monday, and I felt a great sense of accomplishment. It required quite a bit of prayer to make it through to the end, but I did it! It's only 25 minutes or so---not like they're asking me to run a marathon---but since running isn't something I've been good at, it was really hard work. Gotta start somewhere!

The other reason I started this is that I kinda fell off the wagon for a few weeks. I lost my 9 inches at Curves and promptly sat on my laurels for a bit. I always do that! So if I disappear again, harass me with encouraging messages so I'll get moving again!

That's all for now. I'll let you know how tomorrow goes.

I am so glad I inspired someone. If I can do it anyone can do it. I am over 250 lbs now, much more than high school, and it is amazing to think I can do it. I know that I will be able to run a 5 k, and so will you!!!
This is so great I am glad we are on the same week... TO us!!! we will do this and we will succeed!
