Eat the Frog First...

Sunday, October 04, 2009

I get a lot of email every day that I usually delete without reading, but I got one this weekend that caught my eye. I read it and have been "pondering" on it all weekend. It starts out by stating an old folk tale thought.

"If you eat a frog first thing every morning when get up, how much worse can your day get?" I chuckled when I read, but the message has stuck with me.

On this journey you are on to lose weight and get healthy, what are the things you hate to do the most. Is it exercise or a particular exercise? Is is tracking nutrition and/or fitness? Is it eating a particular food? Is it blogging? Is it showing your vulnerable areas to the world?

Think on your "frogs" for a minute. I know you must have one or two. Then, each and every day when you get up, think about all the things you have to do for the day. Find that one thing you would normally put off until the very last in hopes that you run out of daylight before it gets done. You know the one I'm referring to. The one that continually gets put off until another day.

The theory behind this tale is that if you choose to pick that "frog" on your list and do it first to get it out of your way, the rest of your to-do list for the day will be so much easier. Think about it. It really does make sense.

So my challenge to you for this next week is to identify your "frogs" every day. Do them first thing. See if it does make a difference in your day. I'm going to give it a try.

Ribbit! Ribbit! Happy emoticon hunting,

What a great way to think about it! I've caught myself recently sitting at my desk thinking, "Man, I'd really like to be working out right now." Of course, that's a totally safe time to having such a thought, because I'm chained to my desk and computer...

How about first thing in the morning deciding (DETERMINING) to eat that frog.

I have heard some suggest to start off with something easy ,that you can do with little effort, and it will give you a sense of confidence and momentum to do the things you dread. But I agree with you, because I tried the other advice, and I was still dreading what I dreaded to start with. LOL

What we dread hangs over us like a dark cloud so I agree with you ....get it out of the way. Thanks for this reminder.
