This is Forever

This blog is a part of my Battle Week #8 on the RED WARRIORS TEAM:

I have learned so much in the last year about myself . The main thing is that I am not on a diet to lose weight and think I will finally be able to eat what I want. My journey is to become healthy. Because I am obese~~ losing weight is a big part of the journey. But to become healthy my journey must continue until the end of my days.

When I reach my goals I realize that I can allow myself to eat anything~~BUT in moderation. My downfall is chocolate. And to have a piece of any kind of chocolate once in awhile will be fine. I also love bread~~any kind, rolls, muffins, bisquits~~again, I can enjoy these on occassion but NOT two or three at a time piled high with real butter.

I am learning that just like the alcoholic or the drug addict~~I am a food addict. And binging and overeating follow me every day. I have reached the point where through God's grace and a wonderful support system here on Sparks I CAN be successfull. But it is a daily walk. I am now" mostly" succeeding but I can never become complacent~~because when I do, I fail.

The joy of losing 85 pounds is a wonderful thing. Wearing smaller clothes that I haven't worn in years is so much more satisfying than binging on chocolate. And the reactions I have had from my cardiologist, my family doctor, and my hematologist have been amazing.

My family cheers me on and they are so proud of my accomplishments. And I see a very different person in the mirror these days. I see a 63 year old woman with sparkle in her eyes, a "happy" smile, a bit of Welsh determination, and a humble spirit that reminds me of how far I have come.

Reaching goal will be a huge milestone in my life~~ but the journey will continue forever. And I plan to share and encourage anyone I can. I want my family, community, and my Spark friends to know how very worth it this journey is.

We all can do it~~one step, one day at a time. So let's get it done!!

I am like you. Eating healthier is a lifelong commitment and if you can't occasionally eat things we enjoy it would make life so unpleasant. We will make it to our goals one of these days. We just have to keep our health at the top of the list.

Love your blog Mona! Currently sharing that learning process myself. And knowing that this time is different than just a diet with an ending is rather exciting. My brother called me his skinny little sister yesterday!!...at just below 200 lbs that is funny to hear, but compared to what was it is true LOL!!
Keep on Warrior! (as Laurie says :)

Hey Mona! I totally agree with you, it really is a lifetime journey! I know from past experience when I reached my goal, I still had to eat healthy and be very careful to avoid the foods I used to binge on. I do not bring any of my binge foods into the house!! The only exception is when our kids are here, and I send whatever is leftover home with them. Exercise and eating healthy foods is a lifetime way of life. Mona, I am also a food addict and I know I will be the rest of my life. I keep reminding myself that.....Just For Today, I choose LIFE...NOT food!! I want to continue to enjoy our children and grandchildren!! Now that I am 61 it is more than just losing weight and wearing smaller clothes. It is being as healthy as I can, so I will feel better and be here for my family and friends. Excellent blog Mona!
    Have a great weekend!!

Wonderful what you are learning about getting healthy! This is not just to get to a goal and then eat ourselves back to obesity...I love that you say this is for life! Thanks for the inspiration.
